Gerald Ford was the first unelected president of the US (and one of his would-be assassins said that when she tried to shoot him); he was selected to replace Nixon’s VP (Spiro Agnew), then became president when Nixon resigned.

Gerald Ford was the first unelected president of the US

Gerald Ford was nominated by President Nixon and voted into office by the Senate. The Senate elected all the Presidents and Vice Presidents before Andrew Jackson.

John Tyler occupied the White house for almost 4 years after the death of Harrison, and was basically outlawed by the Whig Party, which nominated Henry Clay in 1844...
