After George Floyd's death, she quit her job in law enforcement and moved to Mexico

Demetria Brown knew the exact moment she decided she'd had it.

She'd just watched a video of George Floyd pinned under an officer's knee, saying he couldn't breathe as he begged for his life. She sobbed as she played it over and over.

On June 1, a week after Floyd's death, she quit her job as a detention officer for the Los Angeles County Probation Department. In the midst of the global coronavirus pandemic, she sold her house, stuffed her belongings into 13 duffel bags and relocated to Puerto Vallarta on Mexico's Pacific coast.

Brown, 42, is one of many African Americans leaving the United States permanently for many reasons, including racism and fear of police brutality. Her flight landed in her new hometown on June 25, a month to the day Floyd died.

Has she not seen the piles of heads from murdered police slaughtered by the cartels and piled up by the side of the road?

This is at least in part a bulls*** story-you can’t just pack up and move to Mexico-my ancestry is Hispanic-two of my cousins recently worked for American companies with facilities in Mexico-one of them was considering living there permanently-he changed his mind-said coming over here from Mexico legally is a piece of cake compared to moving over there-non-citizens can’t own property in Mexico, if you want to stay, you have to get a visa first-then you apply for immigrante status-but you have to return to the US for a specified number of weeks every 6 months, red tape, red tape, blah, blah-and it is not easy to get a job if you don’t already have one with an American corporation with a facility there-

Although the woman in the article might have an easier time jumping through the hoops and getting a job since she is a LEO, as long as she can speak Spanish-cities in Mexico lose an awful lot of policia and federales to the cartels every year-she’ll be fresh meat...

Well, if she encounters racism or police brutality there, she can always form a local chapter of Black Lives Matter. After a few mostly peaceful protests, I’m sure things will be much improved.

Only unpleasant for an American Black-Black Hispanics are just fine-but they are either natives or from Puerto Rico, Cuba, etc, and they do have better manners for the most part-sort of the way that African Blacks don’t like American Blacks-they think they are rude, lazy and unpleasant-much as I hate to say so, most Hispanics in Mexico and points south do have better manners than Americans of any color or ethnicity-many of us are just not well brought up...

She’ll be glad to learn that in Mexico they fund their police *very* differently. The government pays cops next to nothing while the drug cartels are what cops depend on for survival.

What a great country. You couldn’t do what she did in a lot of countries. Good for her. Follow her dreams. Be your best self.

They do have Native American blood-just doesn’t show-mine doesn’t either-mostly Spanish Basque-light olive skin, red hair-but my family is well-painted with the Apache brush within the last two centuries-some of us are darker than others-it is all in the DNA...

"She's afraid of police brutality, so she moved to Mexico?"

She's obviously not very bright. July 25th:

1 dead, several missing after group attacked in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

"...one of many African Americans leaving the United States permanently for many reasons, including racism and fear of police brutality..."

Well, that is one. I figure if they would have found more they would have included in the story. For every black who leaves the USA due to perceived racism, I am willing to bet there are 1,000 who have left the Democrat Plantation and will vote for Trump.

I've heard that about L.A. too.

"...Brown initially considered moving to an African nation, including South Africa. However, after visiting both countries, she says, Mexico felt more like home..."

There was an American writer who went over to Africa, the land of his roots, and fully thought it would be like going home, that he would be among his "own people".

He happened to be over there during the Rwanda Genocide, and what he found was, melanin content of the skin was VERY important to survival. Depending on where you were, having more or less (not some or none at all) could be a death sentence. If you were a lighter skinned black in an area with darker skinned tribes (or vice versa) you could be murdered with a machete, no questions asked.

Just as bad were facial features. You might be just as light-dark or darker, but if you had certain facial characteristics, you could just as easily be on the wrong end of a machete swing. And the writer nearly was, because his facial characteristics were closer to the other tribe.

It gave him an entirely new perspective on race in America. When he returned, he gave thanks for the USA, and didn't view it from as racist a perspective as he had before.

We can’t let this die. Cover her story from the day she leaves to the day she comes crawling back. MAKE the media cover when she comes back and WHY and how much money she has left. Don’t let this one get away.
