It's come to this: Kindergarten Cop, a banal 1990 comedy-action movie starring Arnold Schwarzenegger as a police detective who masquerades as a teacher, has been canceled and likened to the explicitly racist silent film Birth of a Nation.
Kindergarten Cop was slated to kick off Portland's Northwest Film Center's Cinema Unbound Drive-in Theater on August 6 until critics led by local author Lois Leveen said the PG-13 movie promoted a "school-to-prison pipeline," according to the Willamette Week.
In an email to Willamette Week, Leveen likened the Schwarzenegger vehicle to Birth of a Nation and Gone With the Wind:
It's true Kindergarten Cop is only a movie. So are Birth of a Nation and Gone With the Wind, but we recognize films like those are not 'good family fun.'…They are relics of how pop culture feeds racist assumptions. Because despite what the movie shows…in reality, schools don't transform cops. Cops transform schools, and in an extremely detrimental way.
The Northwest Film Center wouldn't tell the Willamette Week's Matthew Singer "how much influence Leveen's comments had on its decision, but the organization did respond to her tweets directly in announcing the cancellation." Kindergarten Cop has been replaced by a second showing of John Lewis: Good Trouble, a documentary about the recently deceased congressman and civil rights leader. Other films in the series include Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Creature from the Black Lagoon, Xanadu, Pee Wee's Big Adventure, and The Shining.
What in the world about this movie promotes a “school-to-prison pipeline”? What kind of weird logic is that?
It’s one of our favorites - despite becoming disappointed in Arnold, as we became.

Overall “cops are bad”, I get, but how does this show kids going to prison or being arrested by cops?

Awww...I would’ve guessed that the breaking point was the kid saying “boys have a (male anatomy part), girls have a (female anatomy part)” that would completely enrage snowflakes these days...
I want to cancel Fast Times for its abortion storyline. But I want to uncancel it for Moving in Stereo. I’m conflicted. Oh, Lois is cool with abortion but resents the male gaze? I think we’re going with canceling it.

In the movie Arnold’s character asks the kindergarten class “Who is your daddy and what does he do?”. Maybe they think it’s racist because black kids wouldn’t know.
Arnold is Austrian, so was Hitler!
Sometimes indoctrination facilities (formerly known as schools) have kids suspended and try to ruin their lives when little boys chew their poptart into the wrong shape.
It’s nonsense.
But here goes.
The author is anti cops in schools.
Cops in schools can put the kids who fail to do their homework in prison.
Arnold played a teacher who was an undercover cop.
Therefore Kindergarten Cop needs to be canceled.
The film festival agreed.
Hollywood is full of pedophiles, and they’re concerned that this movie sends the wrong message, and claims it’s racist? Perhaps they’d go for a remake where the teacher/cop is sodomizing all the kids in the classroom. No racism or traumatizing of kids in that scenario, right?
