McLaughlin currently works at MeTooSTEM, the non-profit organisation that she founded in order to advise scientists who are victims of sexual harassment.[5] Seven leaders left the #MeTooSTEM advocacy group in 2019 after complaining about the abrasive style of and lack of transparency by McLaughlin.[17] Two more members in leadership positions of the organisation resigned in 2020 after alleging that they were “bullied” by McLaughlin.
