Jason Whitlock claims leaked George Floyd footage shows early narrative of his death was a 'race hoax'

Sports journalist Jason Whitlock wrote Tuesday that the early narrative surrounding the death of George Floyd amounted to a "race hoax" after leaked body camera footage of the incident that led to Floyd's death May 25 was made public.

"The George Floyd case is not a race crime," Whitlock, who is Black, wrote on OutKick.com. "No rational person can watch that footage and conclude the police were motivated by Floyd’s Black race."

The footage shows four Minneapolis police officers struggling with Floyd before one of them, Derek Chauvin, ultimately pins Floyd to the ground in a scene that was broadcast around the world.

Although Whitlock said Chauvin wasn't justified in kneeling on Floyd's neck, he argued it would be "virtually impossible to convict [the] former officers."

Floyd Observations (regardless of other weird scene activity) =

LEO Responce — Floyd used fake fed bills to purchase/rob a store and satisfy his chemical wants. Is both federal and state crime.

Toxicology Report — Floyd behind the wheel with multiple classes of heavy drugs in system, enough to probably kill him.

— Floyd does put on an act, (claiming to be afraid of space in police SUV, after just having come from a smaller vehicle cabin space), does not follow multiple police instructions, AND DOES RESIST ARREST, and literally all police efforts.

— Floyd clearly does resist/struggle with police from the beginning, not initially showing his hands when asked, (possibly attempting to hide something), then acting like he was being hurt while continuing to resist all police efforts. Police were clearly not using deadly force, and actually treating Floyd rather softly throughout the new bodycam footage.

— One of the officers continuously struggling with Floyd throughout the leaked video footage was the black officer.

Nothing shocking here.

Expected to see what is in this video.

Ultimately a rather gentle approach used by police, exactly because of the two tiered justice system.

Knee in the neck for prolonged period provided a near exact opposite image of the overall actual encounter.

I just watched the video. That’s not murder. That’s keeping a guy who was that of control twice down until medics got there. A guy who is obviously incredibly high on on God knows what kind of drugs. One officer asked if they should let him on his side. I wouldn’t want that guy to move even in handcuffs. It was wrong but it wasn’t murder

And the early narrative was that the cops didn’t give a hoot about his condition, while the reality is that they did call EMTs to the scene.

I also heard them trying to reason with him, telling him that they'd roll down the windows of the police car if he'd just sit down inside... I only saw the first 9 minutes, but it was clear they were trying to reason with him and restrain him without brutality. But he was just flipping out.

I have noticed the capitalization of black in many different publications/postings. It has made me go back 60 years to when I first learned the rules of capitalization. You know, capitals should be used for the first word of a sentence, proper nouns or names, first word of a quote, days, months, and holidays (but not seasons), most words in titles (but not articles, conjunctions or prepositions), cities, countries, nationalities, and languages, specific time periods and events.

The current “habit” of capitalizing the word black is wholly inappropriate unless it falls into one of the permitted uses.

The constant violation of the simple rules of grammar cause me to question the intelligence of the writer/publisher. But, then again, maybe it is as you write - it is a “ ... statement of hatred against whites.”

We NEVER had any proof that the Floyd case was about race. We have not heard anything from Derek Chauvin about what motivated him. Race is just one possible explanation.

Associated Press changed its rules a couple of weeks ago, said Black should be capitalized but white used lowercase. Most news orgs follow AP, hence the new change.

Before the Associated Press changed their “style” format, the only places I saw “black” capitalized were in publications that could be described as “black supremacist”. You’re certainly right that the only legitimate capitalization is of proper nouns or at the beginning of a sentence; and of course no other adjective in this strange new epoch gets capitalized, certainly not “white”.
