Wonder if opinion on masks was split along party lines like it is now.
These days the masks play right into the country’s ideological and cultural divide.
My guess is the masks were far less political in 1918.
Im not seeing it split on party lines. There are lots of Republicans and conservatives who are for wearing masks, and there are lots of Republicans/ Conservatives who are against wearing them. The Democrats are universally for wearing them.
The article says there was still the liberty & freedom vs “public health” divide. Good question about whether it broke along party lines. I would expect the Wilson Democrats were pro-mask.
I’m surprised how the pro-mask sentiment took over the once-free West.
