Former President Bush pays tribute to immigrants in new book

NEW YORK (AP) — A new book by former President George W. Bush will highlight an issue which now sets him apart from many of his fellow Republicans — immigration.

Crown announced Thursday that Bush’s “Out Of Many, One: Portraits of America’s Immigrants” will be published March 2. The book includes 43 portraits by the 43rd president, four-color paintings of immigrants he has come to know over the years, along with biographical essays he wrote about each of them.

Bush, who served as president from 2001-2009, has often praised the contributions of immigrants, a notable contrast to President Donald Trump’s rhetoric and policies. As president, Bush supported a bipartisan immigration reform bill that narrowly failed to pass in 2007, with opposition coming from both liberals and conservatives.

That’s like saying I’m glad Hoover was there when the stock market crashed

So glad I didn’t support this doofus for re-election in 2004

Both of GWB’s Supreme Court picks were in his second term. If Gore had won in 2000 and been re-elected, or if Kerry had won in 2004 (only the electoral votes of Ohio saved us from that), their picks would have been much worse. Even Roberts isn’t as bad as anyone they would have chosen.

I will go out on a limb and say that Patrick Cleburne is not one of the immigrants included in Bush’s collection of portraits.

It’s one thing to validly point out what a RINO Bush was as POTUS, but to even imply (whether accidentally or not) that voting for his opposition is in any way viable is simply not itself valid.

I voted for Bush. The question, though, is the country in a better place now having elected him? I think the answer to that is unquestionably no. Had we elected Gore or Kerry we’d be in almost exactly the same situation right now becasue on policy there just wasn’t much difference between Bush and the Democrats.

Yeah, I used to ask God every day why Obama was president and thank him that McCain wasn't.

Probably the greatest damage Bush did was making Republicans almost unelectable. McCain's decisions would have been as bad for the US as Obama's, but Republicans would have gotten the blame.

Since we had eight years of Obama that followed Bush, the point is kind of moot.

Frankly, Gore and/or Kerry would indeed have pushed the country further left than Bush, especially if they had the aid of a Congress such as the 110th, the worst of which Bush actually did veto.

No.

Does someone have that meme of GW lovingly holding his face close to Moochelle?

Since I mentioned it I will suggest the warning: Viewing image below may cause nausea in some FReepers.

Does this dork think he’s Hitler now? No one wants to see your scribbles, George.

And just think McCain and Romney were/are even worse. This is the muff cabbage we nominated for President.

Hoover (Bush), Wilkie (Romney, though I don’t want to insult Wilkie that much) and Dewey (McCain). Jeb is Alf Landon.
