Immune system over reaction is not an immune system trying to destroy the virus. It is a system out-of-balance, due to poor lifestyle habits. It is the other side of a poor immune reaction coin, the other side being inadequate reaction.
Most people that die from Covid have compromised immune systems.

In addition, there are several human coronaviruses that we have dealt with seasonally for years. Is “novel,” as in completely new, an unnecessarily shocking term? -- it has 21% not overlapping. humans have 70% gene overlap with basal worms. So yeah, even a 1% difference makes it "novel" or new.
