Were suspicious tunnels near Beirut Port discovered after blast?
The Jerusalem Post ^ | August 11, 2020 | Seth J. Frantzman

Videos circulating online, as well as rumors and reports, indicate that "tunnels" have been found in the wake of the Beirut explosions. Some have asserted that this is evidence of Hezbollah "tunnels" storing weapons at the Port of Beirut, while others think they were used for human trafficking. Both SkyNews and Russia's Sputnik News claimed there was a "labyrinth network of tunnels."

The Lebanese Armed Forces have denied the existence of tunnels, just as Hezbollah has denied doing anything at Beirut Port. It's unclear how the army could refute the claims without investigating the images and videos already circulating online. Nevertheless, the army denied the existence of tunnels.

...The Sky News report, which was posted online on Sunday, said the people excavating the site and searching for survivors "know there is a labyrinth of subterranean chambers here; they have discovered the opening of one of them."

...There may be a more prosaic explanation for underground rooms or other aspects of the urban environment having underground infrastructure, such as tunnels for electrical, water and sewage facilities...

Nevertheless, the quick denial by Lebanon that these areas exist and the video of the subterranean chamber or "tunnel" seems to illustrate that Lebanon is still afraid to fully investigate the area for fear of finding the suspicious activities that those critical of Hezbollah allege were taking place here.

Hezbollah is known to have expertise in building tunnels and underground bunkers.

So, yes, there are tunnels. Lebanese Armed Forces is the prison bitch of the Hizzies, which is a proxy for Iran.

The man who shot the infamous video of the horrific explosion that rocked Beirut said he was afraid he was about to die after the blast, whose shockwave shattered his coffee mug as he was flung from his balcony into the apartment, according to a report.

Abdallah Rashidi, 26, a former UK university student, began recording the fire at a warehouse in the Lebanese capital's port moments before the cataclysmic explosion sent a giant mushroom cloud skyward, the Daily Mail reported.

"When you see the blast slowly approaching you, you think you're dead," said Rashidi, who was drinking coffee on his balcony in the Sodeco neighborhood several miles from the epicenter, according to the outlet.

"People didn't believe the video actually happened when I sent it. It looks like it's from a movie really, it's completely unimaginable. Part of me is still in denial," he said.

Rashidi said he even saw a group of doomed firefighters who responded to the fire right before the epic explosion.

"This huge force just came out of the fire. It was slowly expanding and I just froze. In my head I was just thinking, 'It's going to hit me,'" he said. "You could see buildings getting pulled apart and crumbling. Thoughts flashing through my mind - 'Will it hit me? Will I die?'"

Look at the area of the explosion. It's at sea level.

If there were any tunnels they would have been under water.

Yes, besides, why would they need tunnels? They run the place. If they;re worried about Sat photos just put up a tarp!

NEAR the port, not in the port. Depending on what the bed rock of the port is like could be rather dry.

Tarps are a give away. They keep your enemy from knowing what’s there, but they know you’re hiding something. Tunnels also keep things invisible from casual passers by. We know Hezbollah uses tunnels to get into Israel. Could be doing other stuff with them. Tunnels are handy.

I don’t see the problem here. That stuff was made to blow up.

Was the port under surveillance and high security?

If the port was tightly controlled I could see the criminal element using tunnels but I don't believe they would be necessary at this location.

It’s Lebanon. As far as Israel is concerned the whole country is under surveillance and high security. And we know Hezbollah uses tunnels to get into Israel. Not outside the realm to use them elsewhere.

It’s all pretty obvious. The terrorists are getting their explosives from somewhere and what better than to park a huge ship of them dead-center in the city, as that is the ONE PLACE they know Israel would never hit, due to what we saw last week. Oh well, now they’ll have to send a supply ship in.

The JP jump shows a Sky News video of a woman pointing to a hole that shows the tops of some sort of underground structure. She says relatives are hoping some related survivors had taken shelter in such underground structures.

The crater is almost 500 feet deep. That means the explosion was used to kill everybody underground. The government PREVENTED rescue efforts at the port for 48 hours.
Thanks, I think. :^)

And I made a mistake. The crater is 141 feet deep. I somehow read that is 141 meters. At any rate, this was a massive STRATEGIC operation against Hezbollah, using new weapons and MASSIVE infiltration. It took YEARS to prepare.

(even the lower figure of 141 feet would mean a shock wave throughout exposed tunnel systems, which would terminate all activities inside them)
