Maine Dems argued legislation was racist.
...
Gideon leveraged her leadership position in the Democrat-controlled legislature to kill two separate bills that would have criminalized the practice of severing the clitoris of infant girls and sewing their vaginas shut.
...
Under Gideon's leadership, Maine Democrats argued that the bill was racist toward the state's large immigrant community from Somalia, a country where the practice is "nearly universal" according to the United Nations
...
Gideon's efforts have helped make Maine one of only 12 states that have not banned female genital mutilation. Such a legacy threatens to complicate her cultivated image as a champion of women's rights, one built on her consistent support for abortion access and the #MeToo movement. The image strategy has paid off, translating into hundreds of thousands of dollars in donations and outside money support from national pro-abortion groups.

“state’s large immigrant community from Somalia, a country where the practice is “nearly universal” according to the United Nation”
That sounds like a racist statement to me. You are accusing them of this crime
The Rats are the true racists. And they have no shame about it.
Just because something is “universal” and “generally accepted” doesn’t mean that it’s the right thing to do.
This practice is barbaric.
I find it unbelievable that many women support the Democrats.
I also find it unbelievable that many blacks support the Democrats.
No one with any discernment should support the Democrats. They are evil people.
“... Maine Democrats argued that the bill was racist ...”
Well, so what if it is? Protecting children from mutilation is racist. Okay. Being called a name vs. children having their private parts trimmed. Oh, just when you thought this conversation couldn’t get more uncomfortable ...

Oh, to be once again in the company of such men as Sir Charles James Napier, then Commander-in-Chief of British forces in India, 18431847, to a Hindu priests objection to the prohibition of sati:
Be it so. This burning of widows is your custom; prepare the funeral pile. But my nation has also a custom. When men burn women alive we hang them, and confiscate all their property. My carpenters shall therefore erect gibbets on which to hang all concerned when the widow is consumed. Let us all act according to national customs.
Not only trimmed, sometimes totally removed.
I guess it is progressive and feminist to make women slaves to men who practice a primitive religion.
Slavery was just about universal and generally accepted.
Why would one need a new law. Im sure there are laws against non consensual Mutilation.
Slavery was not universal accepted amongst the slaves.
Perfect. Can we erect gibbets for lawless, child-mutilating Democrats?
This Democrat, cultural destruction of our civilization should be torn out root and branch.
I wonder how she’d feel about volunteering for the exact same procedure.
Lead by example.
If you’re for it, then do it.
OK, fellow FReepers - you just read this post and I’ll bet you said “Dem clit cutters be some evil sons a bitches!”
So, where else did you hear about this? Nightly news? The New Yawk times? Your local TV station? Nope - you heard about it here on FR. And with no ads to irritate the hell out of you. Cool, huh?
Hint: It’s fund raising time here. Time to cough up some bucks! (I just did; I’m a geezer, and I’m so cheap with my money I squeak when I walk.)
Challenge the local TV stations in Maine to show videos of the procedure. Write to the newspapers and have them write stories and include pictures of little girls screaming in pain. Let the voters know what the Democrats in Maine approve of, and this should happen in every state that has not banned this torture.
