Before we left NJ we moved from Bergen Cty to Ocean County in south Central NJ next to Barnegat. A very beautiful part of the State as is most of NJ once you get past exit 14 on the NJ Turnpike or about 15 miles south from the exit 162 in Paramus.
NJ is called the Garden State for good reason and this can be appreciated best when flying over the State as I did often when I had by pilots licence and a PA 28 180 Cherokee.
Outside of the decrepit north east cities of Camden, Newark the State is mostly farm country and has among the most beautiful beaches in the country.
That was the original version of the Pledge. I have no problems with it really.

You make a good point.
Any version, however, that now omits "God" demonstrates a troublesome reversal in our American cultural setting.
What seems ironic and duplicitous is that Muslims would omit "God". They are quick to tell us we pray to the same "God" and that their primary allegiance is to "God" and yet in this instance they turn their back on God.
That it makes no sense for them to do so is obvious.
Actually, it is a good thing for the DNC to cut God out. They are finally stopping the lie, and revealing who they are.
