DCCSC passes a Resolution on the need for Masks and Social Distancing
REDDING, Calif. — The Democratic Central Community of Shasta County proposed a resolution requesting local public health officials and law enforcement to make wearing masks and social distancing in public places mandatory.
Chair of the organization, Jenny Abbe, said she believes law enforcement should issue warnings and ticket those who don’t comply.
“One thing we emphasized in the resolution was we think there needs to be consequences for people not abiding by the mandate,” Abbe said.
She also added rather than this being a liberty issue, people should look it at as a public health issue.
“We are really not at liberty to infect our fellow citizens and that’s what we’re risking,” Abbe said. “When you’re asking something so simple as to wear a mask, it seems like a small price to pay.”
Abbe said she’s hoping to work with Shasta County Board of Supervisors and other local public health officials to enforce these laws.
“We would like to see the Sheriff, Redding Police, Anderson Police, all of the law enforcement agencies in our county enforcing mask compliance.”
She said she believes when people go out and are not wearing a mask, they are still risking the lives of essential workers.
These are people that are able to service us in “grocery stores, health care settings and the dry cleaner, et cetera.”
