Trump to Announce Plasma Treatment Authorized for COVID-19

WASHINGTON (AP) — After expressing frustration at the slow pace of approval for coronavirus treatments, President Donald Trump was set to announce on Sunday the emergency authorization of convalescent plasma for COVID-19 patients.

The announcement will come after days of White House officials suggesting there were politically motivated delays by the Food and Drug Administration in approving a vaccine and therapeutics for the disease that has upended Trump’s reelection chances.

On the eve of the Republican National Convention, Trump was set to issue the emergency order — which would make it easier for some patients to obtain the treatment — in a news conference Sunday evening, according to White House officials.

Mayo Clinic and others have used it on close to 100,000 already and apparently had decent results.

Agreed. During the height of the pandemic, there were people I read about online who were dying from covid19. The medicines given to them hadn’t helped them enough and plasma treatment was their last hope. I recall there was a doctor and also a nurse. Both received plasma and both recovered.

Then he had on some foreign Doctor who was complaining that there had not any blind studies but the experts who spoke with Trump spoke of placebo vs treatment groups. I would LOVE for the personnel rules they adopted over at the VA to be expanded to the entire federal civil service. Make it far, far easier to fire poor performers, saboteurs and obstructionists. We’d save many, many billions of dollars each year and have far greater productivity.

Good for him. He should go for it. They’ll do COVID-19 antibody titer measurement on his donated plasma. If he has had the disease and his titer is high enough, they’ll use it on current COVID patients. If the titer is too low (or nonexistent) the donated plasma will still be used for other critical medical needs.

The press has everyone scared to death....in there view nothing works...or it has not had a controlled study...

There was some doctor on Fox News saying this has to have a controlled study before we know if it will work...

I have enrolled patients in that study and used the plasma. I think by the time I have them in critical care its too late — it may be better in Phase 1 or 2 disease

HCQ works with azithromycin or doxycycline e in early disease, and I am satisfied it is an acceptable prophylaxis with zinc

Simple solution to the pandemic,,,,Make HCQ and Azithromycin OTC drugs so anyone who develops a cough and/or fever can go the nearest drug store and self medicate with the drugs along with Zinc Sulfate with correct dosage within 48 hours of symptoms and pandemic over.,,,,,instead of waiting a few days to get tested and 5 days for the results,,,,if over 60 years of age...you’re dead.
