It would take years to gradually decouple from China and not negatively impact the US economy.

The current supply chain for all levels of manufacturing is so reliant upon Chicom widgets that an immediate closure would be the biggest economic chaos this country has ever endured.

We did it to ourselves.

“It would take years to gradually decouple from China and not negatively impact the US economy.”

The process started during President Trump’s first week in office. They started rotating groups of CEO’s through the White House, briefing them on the threat and the coming tariffs, telling them to prepare.

It was a big element in the re-working of all of our major trade deals (NAFTA, EU, Japan, Korea).

We are pretty far down the road now.

Boost those tariffs up and watch how fast the free market can move out of China.

A fairly speedy decoupling process would put the spurs to us to start producing useful things. Maybe that's what we need.

By the way, some of the coastal states here won't like it at all. They rely on imports too much. They'll foment more chaos and pump out more propaganda.

When a person reviews how quickly the USA geared up production for World War II, I don’t think it would take that long to move manufacturing back over to the USA.

At one point, B-17’s were being built in multiples every day.
