Chinese troops have been taking part in coastal military exercises to be ready for any potential conflict with U.S. or Taiwanese forces, according to state media, amid high tensions in the Taiwan Strait and the nearby South China Sea
The Global Times newspaper—owned by the People's Daily, which is the official publication of the Chinese Communist Party—said Monday that the series of coastal drills "is seen as a direct and strong response to the recent negative moves by Taiwan secessionists and the U.S."
China considers the democratic island nation of Taiwan a wayward province and has vowed to bring its 23 million people under Beijing's control per its "One China" policy. The CCP has long said it is willing to resort to force to do so if diplomatic efforts fail.
Beijing and its media organs regularly disparage what it calls "secessionists" in Taiwan—i.e. nationalists favoring independence from the CCP. The U.S. has long backed Taiwanese independence through weapons sales and is legally bound to help defend the island against attack. The U.S. does not, however, officially recognize Taiwan.

Be a damn shame if those Chinese Generals lost their mansions and luxury cars in a war.
If actual war breaks out with China, they obviously underestimate what our actions would be.
The days of proportional response are finished. We would crush all of China in a few days - starting with all their satellites in space within the first few minutes, as well as the politburo and military leadership.

Wondering exactly how many are in their army. What if it turns out to be the 200,000,000 spoken of in prophecy? If so, hope the U.S. has the stomach for killing that many.
Do the Taiwanese have “FORCES”? Or are they talking about the 20 year olds waving American Flags?
Thing is it is an election season. No way Trump touches this. The Chinese know this, so it is not surprising on the timing of all this.
Saber-rattling in not at all a new strategy to try to intimidate international rivals.
Sometimes it works. But the Chinese Communists of mainland China better not be writing checks with their mouths that their butts cannot cash.
While they have a great deal of military and technical expertise (some in part STOLEN from the US), and they have the depth of manpower to resist any actual invasion of their territory, there are any number of ways to kick their legs out from beneath them, and keep them essentially locked within their own borders.

Great post. I noticed the Chinese are not much different than Saddam Hussein was and Iran are in their rhetoric. That almost always means they are afraid or quite intelligible about the enemies’ powers.
I do a lot of reading of our cutting edge capabilities. They are almost impossible to absorb that they exist in 2020 America and not in some science fiction movie
The R.O.C. controlled island chain including Quemoy and Matsu is less than ten miles away from the mainland and has been kept out of communist hands for seventy years.
If the ChiComs intend to invade Taiwan, they should start with Quemoy & Matsu in order to see if the Dragon can truly swim.
It is my understanding that every male upon adulthood has to serve in the armed forces and thereafter remains a member of their national guard.
There is a 51st state of the USA movement in Taiwan.
