I hope they do. We need to be making our own medical supplies anyway. If ANYTHING is a national security issue, that is.

I don’t think so.
I think it morphed back into a Chinese Imperial System. Mandarins are replaced with Party Members, and the Chairman is Emperor who rules by the Mandate of Heaven.
Which, hopefully, Xi is about to lose.
I wonder what future historians will call this (short-lived) dynasty?

Japs were making F1 cars in the 60s. Seikowas making professional dive watches as good as Swiss in the 60s. Made in Japan was a joke because of Western chauvinism. There is no comparison, in engineering prowess, between the Japanese and China.

“A new Manhattan Project in the offing.”
It would have to be that scale of commitment to accomplish self sufficiency of supply chain within 5 years.
Whole lot of pain between now and then though.

For vitamins and antibiotics, more than 90% of their raw materials are produced in China...And those raw materials have been washed by floods into the South China Sea. And speaking of floods, how's that Three Gorge's Dam doing these days?
To: Dr. Marten
For vitamins and antibiotics, more than 90% of their raw materials are produced in ChinaThis is the direct result of globalist policies.
The poison dream of Cheap Labor is killing America's independence.

They were also selling a lot of cheap pot metal stuff because that's what we would import from them. It would take more than 15 years for the many Pacific War vetarans and their families to want to throw money their way.
Even in the '60s, Japanese lenses for cameras were known to be the best value, and at least on par with the European stuff.

We need to be making our own medical supplies anyway.True.
However, Cheap Labor globalists sold out Americans a long time ago, making them dependent on hostile countries for basic and fundamental things.

Old made in Japan stuff I wish I had.

There were some who went the entire rest of their lives avoiding Jap products.

Allow your supply chains to fall into the hands of a Communist nation hostile to you, as every president since Nixon through Obama did, and this is what happens.
The good thing, however, is that there is no reason for us to maintain any dependence on China - it's not like pharmaceutical ingredients are only available in China.

I have a pair of old Yamaha Skis.
They made musical instruments and IC engines.
They knew their dynamic, vibrational tech.

In the short term, there are other countries that we could buy from....Germany, India, etc. Meanwhile, we could immediately pass the mandate (which we’re going to pass anyway) that all sources of antibiotics and other key medicines purchased by the federal government be from domestic sources.
The fact that Chinese officials would even hint of trying to use this as leverage as they have done multiple times now is all the evidence anyone needs that we need to eliminate our reliance on China - not reduce, eliminate.
