In the short term, there are other countries that we could buy from....Germany, India, etc. Meanwhile, we could immediately pass the mandate (which we’re going to pass anyway) that all sources of antibiotics and other key medicines purchased by the federal government be from domestic sources.
The fact that Chinese officials would even hint of trying to use this as leverage as they have done multiple times now is all the evidence anyone needs that we need to eliminate our reliance on China - not reduce, eliminate.
