DOJ seeks data on care home deaths in 4 Democrat-led states

The Justice Department on Wednesday sent letters to the governors of New York and three other Democratic-led states, seeking data on whether they violated federal law by ordering public nursing homes to accept recovering COVID-19 patients from hospitals — actions that have been criticized for potentially fueling the spread of the virus.

Prosecutors said the fact-finding letters also sent to New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Michigan were aimed at determining whether the orders “may have resulted in the deaths of thousands of elderly nursing home residents.”

“We must ensure they are adequately cared for with dignity and respect and not unnecessarily put at risk,” Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights Division Eric Dreiband said.

Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf said his office was reviewing the request. Spokespeople for New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy said the fact that all the states are led by Democrats and the timing of the move — in the midst of the Republican National Convention — spoke volumes about the political nature of the inquiry.

“Americans would all be better served if the Trump administration stopped the partisan games and focused on delivering a real plan to defeat COVID-19,” said Whitmer spokesperson Tiffany Brown. …

Indeed, a few years ago, Emanuel was accused by Betsy McCaughey and Congresswoman Michele Bachmann, among others, of favoring euthanasia and death panels for individuals. Dr. Emanuel argued that in fact he is a well-known opponent of euthanasia, and that, as the details in his Wikipedia entry note, his talk about “rationing” medical treatment concerned only the “allocation of very scarce medical interventions such as organs and vaccines,” not preventing the elderly who want medical treatment for illnesses from getting what they need. Emanuel said he was angry that what he wrote was taken out of context: “I find it a little dispiriting, after a whole career’s worth of work dedicated to improving care for people at the end of life, that now I’m ‘advocating euthanasia panels.’”

Let me first say that I live in Idaho, and my spouse is in a nursing home in this state and that she has tested positive.

Idaho is way down on the list of infections and deaths. Yet Idaho has had 343 deaths and 196 are in care facilities. That’s over 50 percent.

Thanks. Frankly, They don’t tell me much. I get most of my information from the state. I can’t see her, and she is really not able to talk on the phone.

My point was, that it is not just Democrat led states where it’s hitting nursing homes...

Not sure if you understand what happened in the states named in this thread, but the governors of those states ordered nursing homes to take in patients with the illness and expose vulnerable nursing home residents to these people and their full-blown illness.

I have heard that Brad Little is a RINO, but has he issued similar orders?I haven’t been able to find evidence to that effect, i.e. as yet.
