well, I hope the teachers never teach again, poor dears....imagine getting all that money for 187 days of "work" and why would anyone "work" if they can stay home in their jammies and still get paid...

STAY HOME TEACHERS....PLEASE...

Students in my area are back in school as of this week. The teachers, officials, and all adults in the community were contacted on what they wanted. Returning to the classroom far outweighed any other option.

I would like all the teachers who refuse to return to the classroom to be fired as Reagan did for the air traffic controllers.

But those were federal employees, and the teachers are state employees.

These overpaid a-holes will make a killing sitting at home getting full salary and showing videos as their teaching.

Well our teachers wanted the classrooms opened....so did the community....so our kids are all in school as of this week. Only those swallowing the koolaid of Governors keeping a stronghold on their states opening believe schools shouldn’t open...as well as all businesses and otherwise.

How would demographics be applicable to this particular situation?

“All they know is that the public education system exists to serve them. Screw them.”

Hey Mase, don’t sugar-coat it. . . tell us what you really think of teachers!! LOL

I agree with you—but here in CA, teachers are the single largest voting block and the teachers’ unions are the single largest contributor to Gavin Newsom, who is not up for re-election until 2023 I think.

Newsom has zero incentive to reopen classrooms even though remote education is indeed a crap product because CA simply does not prioritize children or education. Period.

I know it is my fault for choosing to live in a tyrannical one party state but it never really strongly affected me (I’ve lived here on and off since I was a child in 1970) until now.

I’m considering a 3 year temporary move to a more free state so my teen daughter can get an in person education—I could rent out my house here and then rent out a different one in a red state. The problem is—after all that upheaval—I can’t really find a state that will “guarantee” in person education, even private.

....”Many teachers do want to return to the classroom”.....

Why would they when they can sit behind a computer checking submitted school work at home and get paid doing so. There’s no incentive for them returning to a classroom when they can relax at home.

That’s great—what is your area?

When the first covid case is revealed, what are the school’s/district’s plans? The CDC has advised entire schools don’t need to be shut down for that necessarily—perhaps just certain classes or perhaps just certain classrooms deep cleaned.

I know—but I know a few teachers who want to return to the classroom (they are younger) and also a few who have stated they are going to quit teaching if we are not back to school soon and do something else because they can’t stand distance learning.

Kindergartners and first graders are sobbing in front of their laptops and rolling around on the floor and hate “school;” teachers of elem kids often don’t want any part of this. It’s like torture for the little ones.

Pa.....they have disenfecting plans etc. already in place ‘IF’ that should happen. But it’s not necessary to follow CDC requirements as we know.

Not all teachers, but far too many. There was a time not too long go when teachers and parents formed an alliance focused on educating children. The unions and the 60’s ruined it.

You can't have governors, health commissioners, and -- yes, President Trump -- running around clamoring about a "war" against an "unseen enemy" ... and then expect Americans to take your word for it when these same people tell them it's safe to go back to school.

Sorry, but that's bullsh!t. Either every business establishment opens, or the schools stay shut.

Schools need to open - period. If teachers are afraid then ‘they’ need to find another profession. Problem solved.

Newsom is hell bent on destroying the state so the people demand a different form of government. Just like the Bolsheviks did a century ago.

I escaped California in the 90's and many friends that remain are dealing with the same challenges as you when it comes to education. There is no good answer. My governor in Florida had the courage to stand up to the teachers and leftist school boards who would shut down education to hurt republican politicians and cater to the teachers. For his efforts, he has earned their rabid animus. I wish he'd fire all of them. Our schools open tomorrow and many teachers have publicly declared they will show their contempt for parents by making student lives so miserable they demand to switch to remote. Can't wait.

Children are at extremely low risk both for catching the virus and infecting others.

Children are at extremely low risk both for catching the virus and infecting others.

1. CDC: "Don't wear a mask."
2. CDC: "Oh, we changed our minds. Wear a mask at all times."
3. "The virus doesn't spread beyond six feet."
4. "It's safe to riot and loot, but it's not safe to go to church."
5. Fauci: "Wear a mask at all times and maintain social distancing ... except when I'm at a stupid baseball game and I want to sit without a mask on right next to two people in a stadium with 40,000+ empty seats."

Sorry ... I don't accept a single thing any government official tells me about this. They've been full of sh!t from Day One.

It’s part of the actual statistics on the disease. Which are consistent across nations.

Great. Let the states pushing to open schools pay those experts to come in and testify in a court hearing.

If a single restaurant or gym remains closed for "safety reasons" -- even if every customer is a responsible adult who is free to make their own decisions about their personal safety -- then no school in that jurisdiction should open.
