Federal government files new round of land condemnation lawsuits for border wall
KRGV (Rio Grande Valley, Texas) ^ | September 02, 2020 | Christian Von Preysing

The federal government filed a flurry of land condemnation lawsuits during the past week — one of many signs that work on the border wall may be accelerating in the Rio Grande Valley.

From January to July, the federal government filed 23 land condemnation lawsuits in the McAllen Division of the Southern District of Texas, which covers Hidalgo County and Starr County. In the last week of August, the government filed nine more.

"This is so inherently political for the White House, for the Department of Justice, and we know the president has made this a high priority," said attorney Ricky Garza of the Texas Civil Rights Project, which helps property owners who don't want to surrender their property for the wall.

Lawsuits aren't the only sign that work on the border wall may be accelerating.

Workers erected new sections of wall Wednesday near Hidalgo. A storage yard on Business 83 in Pharr is full of bollards. And construction near Donna, which started last fall, remains underway.

The U.S. Department of Justice didn't respond to a request for comment.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection said it prefers to work with property owners rather than resort to legal action, but that work on the wall is moving forward.

Nine condemnations in one week.

We have not seen anything approaching this in the Trump-era Program before.

We are off to the races the Rio Grande Valley.

condemnation essentially means they couldn’t work out an agreeable price via negotiation and/or arbitration, most likely because the land-owners didn’t want to work out an agreement ...

eminent domain provides that any government ALWAYS has the option to take immediate possession of the condemned land and work out compensation after the face ... in my experience as a city councilman, condemnation was ALWAYS a last resort, and the mere threat of condemnation was sufficient to work out a deal ...

I want the sections in the RGV to be completed. This will change the political demographics of the area.

Kinda reminds you when Israel was re-building their walls.....

At first they laughed Nehemiah to scorn...but as soon as Sanballat and his associates heard that Nehemiah and the Jews were actually building the walls, they were angry....but while Sanballat and his associates organized to fight against him Nehemiah ‘prepared to meet the opposition and continued the work on the walls’....which is how it’s been throughout Trump and our guys building our wall.....

Good news. Obviously those landowners didn’t care about the money, they want to stop the wall.

I flat don’t understand this. I would think the government would outright owned this land from the day the border was established, or at least have an easement that runs well back of the border. My town has easements all around my house.

Methinks these lands may be owned by drug cartels. Makes sense, right?

“My town has easements all around my house.”

Some of these deeds go back to 1826 and the Republic of Texas. The RoT didn’t do eminent domain as far as I know and it didn’t really have an army either.

Ever consider the possibility that your town zoning does not represent the entire land mass of the United States?

As I recall there was a five foot easement along the border in the Columbus, NM area. I staked mining claims with the discovery posts and corners within the easement. I’m sure that no mining could have been carried out in the easement if a discovery had been made there; however, in hindsight I’m wondering about the validity of the rest of those claims.

According to wiki the intestate highway system has 48,440 miles of at least 4 lane highways. Some how all of that was built after annexing every inch for these highways. I don’t remember any eminent domain problems.

McAllen is a critical area. “Well traveled,” as they say. Not sure how close to the river these projects will be, but I’m sure all has been well researched. It’s what Trump does.

But sadly not in time for the election. Wasn't the border wall supposed to be completed by now?

“any government ALWAYS has the option to take immediate possession of the condemned land and work out compensation after the face ... in my experience as a city councilman, condemnation was ALWAYS a last resort”

I think that is what we are seeing here. The Trump Administration has been working to settle with landowners along here for years, but now it is down to the wire to get everything locked in, before any potential change in Administrations.

More than 100 miles in the RGV Sector have already been awarded on contract, and the funding is obligated. I think they want to ensure that all the land acquisition is completed before inauguration day as well, to prevent any radicals from using that to cancel projects. I bet we will also see a lot of even swifter condemnation action in the neighboring Laredo Sector as well.

Democrats in the area want the security, improved flood control and economic development that comes with these projects - but can’t admit to it publicly. They need the cover of the Republicans having done it all, beyond their control (these areas are the bulk of what Congress directly funded through their appropriations).

Do you think they were paid to let people cross in illegally?

Very possibly. Many politicians were getting big $$ from cartels to keep the border open for drug and human trafficking; why not landowners?

Another favorite trick is the environment. You can’t build a wall because some endangered species will be lost. That is one of their old favorites. If that doesn’t work you can try, it will harm the Indians, the Hispanics, the blacks etc.

Did you know that the democrats have 600 lawyers ready to go this election? How much are they charging by the hour? Who is paying? My guess is you and me are paying because one way or the other the democrats always manage to stick it to the tax payer. How many lawyers have they used to keep the border open? The democrats are the biggest thieves. They are criminals and the Republicans have been complicit or scared of them or both.

The democrats scheme is to take billions of dollars under some vague but pleasant sounding title. The money gets divided at the states level to all of their activists, lawyers, do gooders, black lives matter, community organizers, agitators etc. etc. This is where the dirty work gets done away from the public eye. We don’t even know where our money goes. And of course these activists send some of that money back as donations to the democrat party. Remember when Pelosi gave millions of dollars to planned parenthood then planned parenthood gave some of it back to the democrats as campaign donations? Our tax money was given to the democrat party which is illegal.

That trick with planned parenthood reveals how the democrats do this. They are deliberately vague to cover up what they are really doing then the democrat groups pay back the politicians with some of the money they were given. You scratch my back I’ll scratch yours. This is how they have built an empire with the taxpayers money. And it is all aimed at getting more money and power for them and their allies.

I agree completely. It has to be dismantled. Trump has done amazing things even under constant attack including commiepuke judges, all the media, every Demshevik, embeds in fed gov, etc.

I can’t wait until we see Trump Unchained after the election.

And the arrests of the big actors starting, whenever that happens.
