The Inevitable Implosion of Biden’s Campaign
The American Spectator ^ | 9-4-2020 | David Catron

Posted on 09/05/2020 7:14:28 AM PDT by Sir Napsalot

It is doomed by a strategy based on a progressive myth about Trump’s base.

It’s tempting to attribute Joe Biden’s plummeting poll numbers in key battleground states to his dilatory denunciation of the riots that still ravage their Democrat-run cities. However, the campaign’s fatal flaw is more subtle than Biden’s tacit approval of mob violence. It is rooted in the classism that resulted in his nomination to be the Democratic standard bearer. Among the progressives who control the party it’s an article of faith that President Trump’s base consists of undereducated working-class whites. Thus, they reluctantly supported Biden’s nomination in the hope that “working class Joe” could peel off enough of Trump’s benighted blue collar support to capture the White House.

The problem with this strategy is that it is based on a myth. White voters without college degrees do indeed constitute an important part of Trump’s coalition. But the belief that these Americans are working class clods dumb enough to support a Potemkin candidate nominated by a radicalized party is a progressive fantasy.

(omitting Biden's dwindling poll numbers)

The source of this downward spiral in Biden’s numbers is the progressive myth that all voters without college degrees are by definition working class and not very bright. Ironically, this nonsense was debunked as early as 2017. Nicholas Carnes of Duke University noticed that the “working class voter” narrative had become a staple of media commentary concerning Trump’s 2016 victory over Clinton and responded with a Washington Post column titled, “It’s time to bust the myth: Most Trump voters were not working class.” Carnes was ill-mannered enough to point out that journalists writing about Trump’s blue collar base had failed to produce any data supporting what had by then become conventional wisdom...

One of the other links in the article, which I didn't excerpt, is 538's Nate Silver debunking the myth of uneducated Trump base during primaries as early as MAY 3, 2016. It is worth a read. In short, “About 44 percent of Trump supporters have college degrees … higher than the 33 percent of non-Hispanic white adults, or the 29 percent of American adults overall, who have at least a bachelor’s degree.”

So the Grand Strategy to woo and lure back the blue-collared "uneducated" working class is doomed to fail. Not since Biden pivoted far-left, made a truce with Commie Bernie, and selected west coast elitist Kamala Harris (who is by far the most liberal senator, even more progressive than Bernie. Which is saying a lot.)

Biden and his team are left to explain incoherently his stand on banning or non-banning of fracking.

The inherent advantage of Conservatives is they have a better connection to objective reality than the Left does.

I have met may undereducated persons who have more commonsense than I do, even with my so-called education.

I have often appealed to God, that if he could grant me one wish, it would be the gift of wisdom (commonsense).

Actually the really uneducated are still voting Democrat (if they vote at all). Lacking BS degree does not mean one is an idiot! As a matter of fact, the plumber or welder makes a lot more money and needs a lot more brain than the Gender studies BS graduate. And the engineers and MDs are all Republicans despite their degrees. Republican party is and had been the party of the middle class. The working people who are the creators of the wealth for everybody. Democrats are the party of the parasites.

You want to talk about uneducated base, most of the Rats base consists of ghetto dwellers and illiterate immigrants and brainwashed young heads of mush, with a few elites pulling their strings.

It is not unlike the situation with global warming “skeptics” which the media tries to portray as uneducated when they actually tend to be older and have greater scientific knowledge than younger and more gullible alarmists.

I’ve seen numerous users on Twitter talking the past couple of days about Biden dropping out after being diagnosed with a medical problem. No specifics have been provided.

This election is going to be all about voter fraud. Everything else is secondary.

(Sorry for the downer.)

I have a bunch of neices and nephews who have basically worthless degrees. Back when I went to school, it was thought that a college education in a liberal arts subject taught people how to think for themselves. These days that has gone out the window completely.

Anyone who has had to design a vent/drainage system when adding bathrooms to an older structure with two or more levels finds out fairly quickly that plumbing is not as simple as it seems. Even the high pressure side can get complicated fairly quickly when trying to add to an existing system in an old house. I respect plumbers a lot more than I did before taking on a large project.

Saturday Morning news “reporting” That Clueless Joe and Kammy hitting the campaign trail this week - with Joe looking forward to meeting the voters. It was basically a Biden campaign ad being sold as news.

I agree with your post up until “the engineers and MDs are all Republicans despite their degrees.”

During the debate phase of the ObamaCare, there were tons of med school students all in favor of passing the unconstitutional bill. !!!! They are ok to be slaves, such shortsightedness, even though they are supposed to be “cream of the young crop”.

And engineering schools have not been the same as when I went to school (granted a long time ago).

Yeah, but I totally agree with your “Democrats are the party of the parasites”.

The progressives who control the party chose Biden simply because he’s not with-it enough to buck them.

Yesterday I offered a ride to a fellow struggling to carry a large bag of cat food and large litter box. Now I don’t offer people rides for obvious reasons but sometimes God moves and before I could think I said “Do you need a lift”.....

Well he was more than happy to accept. Short story - along the way he mentioned he had lost his job due to covid, couldn’t pay all his child support so they took his license....and finally had sufficint cash to at least feed his cats.

Now this guy was clearly slow and lacked communication abilities ......but I could not help but wonder how many others like him are out there. Who just need a break..or a lift to lighten there load until back on their feet. And yet he’s all for Trump!

“About 44 percent of Trump supporters have college degrees “
Having a degree does not translate into educated, anymore.
Maybe fifty years ago, but they hand them out like Skittles, for endless, frivolous “vocations”.
Give me a man with common sense, and street smarts, anyday.

I have a degree, and no one could support Trump more than I do.

Of course, my diploma has the word “Engineering” on it instead of “Studies”.
