Wow, remember the old adage about cleaning your plate? “Eat your vegetables, people are starving in China.” And how is the supreme leader going to enforce this? one hundred million more cops knocking on every door, watching every meal?

I stand as a proud member of The Clean Plate Club since the mid 1950s.

I spent many an evening alone at the dinner table staring down the broccoli on my plate. We had a mandatory clean the plate club in my house.

The vast majority of protein in the Chinese diet is pork. China’s pork production has been hammered with a porcine disease that has wiped out at least 50% of its pork production.
Their chicken production has been severely hurt by numerous outbreaks of disease. Their latest issue is they attempted to import many thousands of New Zealand Cattle and the ship bringing that cattle was swamped and sank in a typhoon just last week.
Torrential rains for weeks on end have wiped out their vegetable and grain production and threaten to topple the largest dam structure on earth. But, other than this China is doing just fine.

Love broccoli, one of the healthiest veggies you can eat.

The Chinese Commies can spend less money on their MILITARY WAR MACHINE and more on food....but I forget, people don’t matter in the CCP. But warships, planes, etc do....

A nation of 1.3 billion with limited farmland is always subject to food shortages. It takes only one major calamity to precipitate serious supply problems.Covid has created serious disruptions but not overt, critical nationwide shortages. China has trade surpluses and the credit available to import the food it needs. Rising food prices and shortages will create political, social and economic instability. However classic famine in China is not likely.

The situation would be much different and critical in 1988 when China had a rigid communist agricultural system.

Not yet but it’s constantly being reported that it’s about to. That’s been said for years. And yet the bloody thing is still there. Makes one wonder.

Raising seven kids my mother quickly gave up trying to get us to eat stuff we didn’t like.

Yup.

Half a century+ ago told to eat every last grain of rice for the “poor starving boy in China.”

Now I wish I’d never cleaned my plate.

F-’n Chicoms.
