Fuddruckers and Luby's owners plan for closures

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- It could be the end of the line for a Texas-based cafeteria chain known for square fish, the Lu Ann platter, and other comfort food from days gone by.

Luby's, Inc.'s board of directors announced Tuesday a plan to liquidate business assets and dissolve the company.

"We believe that moving forward with a Plan of Liquidation will maximize value for our stockholders, while also preserving the flexibility to pursue a sale of the Company should a compelling offer that delivers superior value be made," said Luby's President and CEO Christopher J. Pappas in a statement.

Luby's, which started in San Antonio in 1947, announced in June it planned to sell off all its assets and pay down debt.

No timeline on the liquidation was given Tuesday. The board's plan is subject to shareholder approval.

The plan to sell off the assets also includes the Fuddruckers restaurant chain.

Luby's has approximately 60 locations across the state.

Fuddruckers has locations in 26 states, including around 40 restaurants in Texas.

Say it ain’t so, Joe. Fuddrucker’s is my favorite burger chain. There is only one remaining in my area, which is at Beach Blvd. and Orangethorpe Ave. in Buena Park, Calif.

I was on the way to dinner with my wife at Texas Roadhouse in Pocatello this evening. Along the way, I noticed the Chili's building has a real estate "available" sign on the lawn in front of the building and in one of the windows. They were in trouble before COVID-19. COVID-19 put the final nail in the coffin.

By comparison, Texas Roadhouse and Applebee's immediately shifted to full service "take out". They were able to retain staff and customer base. Now they have the dining room open again. Almost back to fully "normal".

Mitt Romney is celebrating-—buying up defunct companies and breaking up all the assets & selling everything piecemeal is what he makes his money on.

This was inevitable. My wife used to like Luby’s and she would go when I was out of town. I agreed to go with her about 8 months ago. Ordered the chicken fried steak. I was about 1/8” inch of beef and 3/8” of batter on each side. Whatever my wife had that day was nasty, as well.

Golden Corral is great. Can’t wait for it to open up again.

Fuddruckers was pretty good, but over-priced. Liked that they had very fresh toppings you put on yourself.

Our Luby’s has the same set up....a shared door/restrooms, with Fuddruckers. Haven’t been there in years, but the food was always okay...better than most fast foods (which we DON’T do).

We have ordered Luby’s holiday meals, a few times, and they’re better than many of their competitors.

Grew up going to Luby’s, with my parents, and then took our kids there, as well.

Sad to see this.

Cookin’ burgers ain’t rocket science.

Fix them how you like, and top ‘em with what you like.

Yeah, I know, wives insist that a meal always tastes better with a restaurant wrapped around it.

Only you can’t eat indoors anymore, and Antifa/BLM is always just around the corner. Hope when they show up I’m ready to double tap and then be judged by twelve.

Many years ago Luby’s Lochwood location was the place to go for a nice Sunday lunch. I remember they had live music, an organist who would take your requests. I would hand him request slips for stuff like Beatles or the Stones and he would know and play them.

It was fun to watch the expressions of the faces of the older patrons as they were subjected to Something or Eleanor Rigby!

R.I.P. LUBY’S
