HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- It could be the end of the line for a Texas-based cafeteria chain known for square fish, the Lu Ann platter, and other comfort food from days gone by.
Luby's, Inc.'s board of directors announced Tuesday a plan to liquidate business assets and dissolve the company.
"We believe that moving forward with a Plan of Liquidation will maximize value for our stockholders, while also preserving the flexibility to pursue a sale of the Company should a compelling offer that delivers superior value be made," said Luby's President and CEO Christopher J. Pappas in a statement.
Luby's, which started in San Antonio in 1947, announced in June it planned to sell off all its assets and pay down debt.
No timeline on the liquidation was given Tuesday. The board's plan is subject to shareholder approval.
The plan to sell off the assets also includes the Fuddruckers restaurant chain.
Luby's has approximately 60 locations across the state.
Fuddruckers has locations in 26 states, including around 40 restaurants in Texas.
I miss Luby’s. They are no where around me now but used to be. I loved all their little deserts, macaroni and cheese, and especially the way they did Lima beans.
Damn I hate to see these fav places go. remember Piccadilly’s? They were good, gone as well. No more cafeteria places anymore anywhere.

Went to lunch there a couple times in the ‘80’s, when I worked at Hughes. I won’t miss it.
Hello, fellow SC’er! At least our little state has not succumbed to the BLM madness. But our restaurants are on COVID restrictions, so going out to dinner is OBE for now.
My wife & I both cook and we like to have company over, which makes dinner an occasion. A local steakhouse stays in business by selling USDA prime steaks to the public. Grilled at home.
One night I cooked Greek style and put bouzouki music on the stereo. There are so many alternatives to going out if one is creative. And boy does it cost less, item by item!
Dill is traditional but you can use any pickle with a sharp taste. I have tried sweet a couple of times and did not care for it.
I got Luby’s takeout last night for dinner. Guess I won’t be doing that anymore. Loved the pies, fried fish and baked chicken. Liver & onions on occasion, not good for the gout though. This sucks!
That is terrible... maybe another Texan can reclaim it and turn it back..
I hope that the Northerners haven’t killed all of the jackolopes off yet ;^)

Are there any Wyatts Cafeterias left in Big D anymore? There was two in our old neighborhood Casa Linda and Casa View. They were built in the late Fifties.
What was the old, original cafeteria, in Dallas....Highland Park?
And, then there was a family named, local chain (well, I know they had at least two locations) of a good cafeteria.
It put Wyatt’s and Luby’s to shame. I can’t think of the name, though.
Fuddruckers was good. Used to eat there often in the 1980s into early 1990s. Right after work. The toppings bar was the best.
America of that Fuddruckers was a much more modest and subdued place before the internet hit in 1995 and coincidentally with Windows 95 hitting which made internet access much easier.
Like a few other Texans I know we haven't set foot back in a Whataburger since they sold out to someone in Chicago. Now they're more or less off limits. They lost their bragging rights.
A Google search reveals the name of Highland Park Cafeteria!
Also they took over the Wyatts in Casa Linda, Whole company went out of business this year in May.
Can’t recall the other family business you mentioned.
Left that city about 30 years ago so not current on local events, it was a nice place to grow up I’ll stick to those memories!
