Rep. Brian Mast (R-FL) told Breitbart News on Friday, the 19th anniversary of attacks by Islamic terrorists who murdered more than 3,000 Americans, that police officers being denigrated today are of the same character as New York City cops who lost their lives rescuing people on September 11, 2001.
Mast linked the Never Forget ethos with firefighters, police offers, and other first responders who lost their lives while helping others in peril. Todays emergency responders embody the same heroism as those who died on 9/11, he stated.
Those officers and firemen and women didnt die just because they were in the wrong place at the wrong time, Mast said. They died because there was a very dangerous situation that happened, and they went charging in. Thats something to never forget as we think about everything going on in the world today, and our police officers, especially, those are the men and women that went charging in that so many are yelling and screaming at today. Theyre the same people.

Look, at the time they couldn’t find any social workers who were willing to run into a burning skyscraper to save other people’s lives.
I’m sure if it happened today lots of BLM members would step up to help.
Mast is a hero; lost both his legs serving. Please donate, I have. https://secure.campaignsolutions.com/mast/list/proc/donation1/?InitiativeKey=RXOVCQKO8F9P
No, those guys twenty years ago were much tougher than the cops we have today. Many joined in the 70s and 80s, and saw a lot of action. A guy I know who was a cop in Brooklyn in the late 70s told me they fired their guns every day, and the criminals fired back, and nobody thought anything of it. The only time he got in the papers was when he killed two Jamaican drug dealers who were firing automatic weapons at other officers.
Before you go calling him a hero, might want to look at his stance on the 2nd Amendment. Apparently, he doesn't think we should have any of those icky "assault weapons", and supports a ban on them. Not much of a hero in my book, just another democrat in republican clothing.
