U.S. Attorney General William Barr is planning to publicly release an interim report on U.S. Attorney John Durham’s probe on the origins of the Russia investigation before the presidential election, the New York Times reported Friday. Lawyers and former DOJ officials lambasted the plan, noting that departmental protocol specifically prohibits leveraging an ongoing investigation in any way to impact an upcoming election.
Government officials told Times that “expectations had been growing in the White House and Congress that Mr. Barr would make public, ahead of the election, some kind of interim report or list of findings from Mr. Durham before he completed the investigation” (emphasis ours). A person familiar with the matter added that Barr had wanted Durham to wrap up his probe quickly.

These protocols are BS.
I can see how it should be frowned upon to arrest an actual candidate. It would put a real damper on a campaign if, let’s say, Joe Biden were frog-marched to a jail cell in October. That’s probably not OK.
But let’s look at Comey. He’s a traitorous crook. If we arrest him, that somehow has a real impact on Joe Biden’s campaign?? What an interesting statement that is. Would the media like to explain how Comey’s crimes implicate Joe Biden?
Law enforcement must have the ability to enforce the law and arrest bad guys. The Left just loves to take those options away.

But if this "John Durham" caricature can do something to prove his actual existence, that would be helpful, one would suppose.

Mueller and the democrats did it routinely for the 2018 election. Not a word of protest, and that was not the reason Comey was fired.

Not providing the report is a political act that will affect the election. It will help Biden who was part of the ongoing coup.
Perhaps Barr will use the same protocols that McCabe and Comey used...Comey is the one ‘above reproach’...

If he releases the report on November 4, they’ll say it’s impacting the 2024 election. Why are they so certain that it will impact Biden’s campaign negatively? Because of their own complicity?
I’m surprised it took eleven posts before that was pointed out. Comey was fired for being an incompetent political hack. Not firing him on day one of his administration was a mistake on Trump’s part.
Comey was fired for conspiring against the incoming President. The election was already over. He was also fired on Rosenstein’s recommendation for arrogating on himself the job of the US Attorney’s office, making decisions whether or not to prosecute based on his investigation.
