Shouldnt Florida elections be more competitive? Amendment #3 will be on your November 3rd ballot. It will change Florida's Constitution on how we vote in our primary elections. Most people have no idea what it is about.
If it passes it will end our closed hyper-partisan primary system that currently locks out 3.6 million Floridians from state legislative and executive leadership races.
As a fellow voter, Im concerned about the lack of competition in many of our legislative districts. Too many incumbents run unopposed. Many other races are guaranteed wins for one major party or the other, and they are decided in primary elections where 27% of our electorate is barred from participating.
The 3.6 million non-partisan voters (NPA) in our state, are the fastest growing block of voters in Florida outpacing Democrats and Republicans.
Allowing all voters to participate in top two open primaries will increase competition and force candidates to appeal to everyone not just the most partisan few!

My thoughts too. Tell your libertarian friends to vote on Wednesday.
Absolutely.
Thats why McCain lasted so long and why Linda Graham has lasted
so long. OPEN Primaries.
Vote NO.
I never understood how anyone could approve of open primaries. Why would you let your opponents help pick your party nominee?
This has got to be from John “Ambulance Chaser” Morgan, right?
There were Dems in 2016 who crossed over to vote for Trump. HRC had the nomination sewn up so this was their brilliant “strategic move” to ensure her victory. They were the ones who had the biggest meltdowns after the election. I have triggered more than a few by pointing out that they voted for Trump exactly as many times as I did. :-)
I opposed it in California.
The insidious part of this here in California that they didnt talk much about before it was voted in, is the fact the top two vote getters in the primary become the people on the general election ballot. We frequently have positions now where no Republican appears on the GE ballot these days. This was true for the US Senate seat and other offices.
We go to the GE polling booth with nobody worthy of our vote in the GE.
Its very frustrating.
I too am registered as an independent in Florida. I miss not being able to vote in primaries but a big, big plus, and this is non-nonsensical, I receive absolutely none of the printed/mailings from either party. None. And the amount of mailings this year is historical.
It IS insidious! Bastards.
I will definitely vote no.
agreed with that. Ridiculous that you wouldn’t be marketed to
I asked why South Carolina voters keep electing Linda Graham and a Freeper replied “ Because of open primaries”
The demonrats actually vote for Linda Graham in the primaries and that knocks out any serious republican challenger. Linda knows this and plays to it. Hopefully the demonrats have a better candidate this time and dump Linda.
Being a new Florida voter you can bet I am voting NO, hell NO on any stupid open primary amendment.
The same stupid people who voted to give felons the vote will vote for this mess.
This amendment makes it a jungle primary. Vote NO!!
VOTE NO.
I have a lot of background information on amendment 3 and will create a separate posting on the topic later this week.
Why would anyone think an open primary was ever a good idea?
TOO MANY people are voting in party primaries already. You should have zero right to participate in nominating a partys candidate unless you have a long track record of loyalty and support.
