Pa. State Department: Counties can't discard mail-in ballots over signature
The Hill ^ | 09 15 2020 | J. Edward Moreno

Pennsylvania officials have directed counties not to discard mail-in ballots solely because an election official believes a signature doesn’t match the one in the voter’s file.

The new guidance issued Monday prompted several organizations, including the Campaign Legal Center (CLC), to drop a lawsuit against the Pennsylvania’s Department of State. The state now has a uniform process for verifying signatures instead of leaving it to the discretion of local officials.

Under the new guidance, voters will have the opportunity to fix issues with the signature on their ballots.

“As a result of this case, Pennsylvania voters can cast their vote without fear that their ballot could be rejected solely because an election official — who isn’t trained in handwriting analysis — thinks their signatures don’t match. Voting should not be a penmanship test,“ Mark Gaber, director of trial litigation at the CLC, said in a statement.

Pennsylvania — which is a key swing state in the presidential election — passed a law in 2019 allowing for no-excuse mail-in voting. That, paired with the pandemic, has led to an increase in popularity for mail-in ballots.

This why democrats love mail in voting. Cheating made easy. It should be illegal except in very few cases.

The REAL BIG problem in PA is that, no matter what, the vote is certified by the Secretary of the Commonwealth....who is DEMOCRAT Kathy Boockvar.

Here’s a better idea. Get your carcass off the couch on election day and go vote in person. This vote by mail is criminally stupid.

Cuba has more fair elections.

A court will decide this, not a Democrat.

Don’t quite see the big deal. There is a procedure for signature match. All this ruling did was insist that all counties use it. A ballot can’t be discarded because a local election judge uses his own decision rather than the state wide procedure.

Absentee ballots have been done like this forever.

Over time, one’s signature can change.

These are the same people that are afraid to vote in person but they are going to come in to fix their ballot?

That needs to be appealed.

baloney. my signature has changed 3-4 times over the year. My first capital letter has changed in shape, my slant is different. I’m surprised when I look at my signature on things over the years and I (if God desires it) have many more to go.

It doesn't say votes with questionable signatures will be counted. It just says local officials can't discard them just for that. The signature still has to be verified.

There is no way this withstands a legal challenge. They are openly trying to steal the election, telling us they are going to do it, and firmly believe that no court can act to stop them.

This is absurd.

They’re worthless!

Absentee ballots and this ballot system are different. This is mass mail-in ballots due to Covid (that is their justification for this). Absentee ballots have a set process and you register ahead of time and request a ballot.

If they do this with “mail-in ballots” it will simply be pure chaos. This is what they want. This is purely crazy.
