Israel holds an important non-military asset that may be very helpful in these negotiations, although none of the sources I’ve read has mentioned it. Israel has developed probably the world’s most advanced desalination process, one that can be powered with electricity generated by solar cells. If there’s any asset all the Arab states have, it’s massive sunlight, making this a natural matchup.
“Israel has developed probably the worlds most advanced desalination process, one that can be powered with electricity generated by solar cells”
Isreal’s desal plants are run on electricity generated by adjacent power plants fired by natural gas from Israels offshore Leviathan natural gas field ...
I am cautious about touting anything commercial using solar or wind for the power. For a large scale commercial application involving mass energy usage such as desalination, you have to have 24/7/365 energy availability. Solar and wind do not fit the bill for that profile unless you want to have a natural gas, nuke or hydro system idling on standby. Not exactly economical. Also, the largest desalination systems are going to use steam for heating ((very high tech multi-effect evaporators) instead of electricity (membranes) for most of the energy required.
Very true.
They are leaders in any number of technologies and medicine. They have much to offer other countries in the region once cooperation is assured.
