ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) Ending the 2020 census at the end of September instead of the end of October, could cost Florida and Montana congressional seats. It could also result in Texas, Florida, Arizona, Georgia, and North Carolina losing $500 million annually in federal funding for healthcare for its neediest residents, according a report released Thursday.
Scenarios modeled by statisticians Jonathan Auerbach and Steve Pierson showed that if the once-a-decade head count of every U.S. resident ends in September, without an extra month, California, Ohio, or Idaho could gain congressional seats, while Florida or Montana could lose seats they otherwise might have gotten.

But this hair on fire propaganda piece suggests it can.
It's possible Montana might lose a seat it might've GAINED if the census went a certain way, but does anybody really believe Montana's population has increased THAT much over the past ten years?
It's census fear-mongering time! And all the Democrat stenographers are on it!
There should be a question on the census about your citizen status. And if you’re an ILLEGAL ALIEN then turn yourself in or self deport.
Ive read somewhere that the census only actually counts around 70% to 80% of the population anyway, due to many who wont answer, and other obvious errors. Therefore, the Census IS an estimate anyway.
Montana is expected to gain a seat, its been projected for several years now based on Census Dept annual projections, so yes they are talking about Montana losing that expected 2nd seat.
Sfgate (San Francisco) wants the census extended, so California does NOT gain Congressional seats?
My BS alarm is ringing off the hook.
Oh please dont throw me in that briar patch!
Maybe I’ll retire to Montana. Nobody wants to hang out there!
I got mail about answering the census. I did so online quite a while ago. Apparently it was ignored. They sent more mail which I ignored. Then they sent a person [a Trump voter :)]. I answered again. Got more mail. When does it stop? This is possibly the worst-managed Census in my lifetime.
It was supposed to be complete in April I think.
We are 5 months later on the Census. (”15 days to flatten the curve”)
November 3rd we cast our votes. December 14th the Electoral College decides who will be president.
And the process for the Census is the same. The vote? Most states are resorting to duct tape and bailing wire in the last 5 months to figure something out.
Washington State voting is all done by mail (or drop off your ballot at a box devoted to ballots). It took us many years and there are still some problems with it.
In the early years we got a Democrat Governor due to a trunk-full of ballots “found” in a car.
California is in danger of LOSING congressional seats, for the first time EVER!
The democrats pulled this coronavirus crap. They’re likely gonna get burned on the back end.
All I know for sure is that the Census is required by the Constitution and that if you were to write,or call, the Census Bureau someone there could answer your questions.
I just started and I'm at the bottom rung of the ladder so I don't know much at all. ;-)
If they fail to gain a seat they should have by a proper count, then yes, it can be considered a “loss”
Deceptive Headline.
The Census seems to be run by idiots this year. I am taking care of a house no one lives (or lived on April 1) in. I have responded to the Census both by web and by phone explaining that. But they are mailing the house again.
I'm glad to see I'm not the only one seeing that.
It’s actually quite possible.
MT population has grown very close to, for example, that of NH, which has long had two representatives:

The Bureau is botching it bigtime. Parts of their little FDC app are pure garbage.
If everybody is undercounted, it should be a wash.
Gonna be a dental floss tycoon?
I got my form in April, IIRC. I mailed it back the very next day.
SO did millions of others.
