September 19In Focus
By faith in the name of Jesus, this man whom you see and know was made strong.
Acts 3:16Author Mark Twain suggested that whatever we look at in lifeand how we see itcan influence our next steps, even our destiny. As Twain said, You cant depend on your eyes when your imagination is out of focus.
Peter too spoke of vision when he replied to a lame beggar, a man whom he and John encountered at the busy temple gate called Beautiful (Acts 3:2). As the man asked them for money, Peter and John looked directly at the man. Then Peter said, Look at us! (v. 4).
Why did he say that? As Christs ambassador, Peter likely wanted the beggar to stop looking at his own limitationsyes, even to stop looking at his need for money. As he looked at the apostles, he would see the reality of having faith in God.
As Peter told him, Silver or gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk (v. 6). Then Peter helped him up, and instantly the mans feet and ankles became strong. He jumped to his feet and began to walk and give praise (vv. 78).
What happened? The man had faith in God (v. 16). As evangelist Charles Spurgeon urged, Keep your eye simply on Him. When we do, we dont see obstacles. We see God, the One who makes our way clear.
By: Patricia Raybon Reflect & Pray
What are you focused on instead of God? With refocused faith, what could you see in Him for your life?
Heavenly Father, when my eyes wander from You, focus my gaze on Your unlimited power.

This song by an obscure Florida group was a local hit for a few months before it went national. However, it didn't make the "oldies" playlists outside the Peninsula State, so it has been forgotten in most of the country. The first and only time I heard this tune played over an AM radio station was while driving through Florida.

The Midnighters' 1954 hit
Work With Me, Annie triggerd a number of answer songs. Early in 1955, Etta James scored with
The Wallflower, a song about a reluctant dancer named Henry, and soon number of songs came out about Annie and Henry. The number of Annie and Henry songs eventually ran into the double digits. I sometimes post an Annie song or two on this site whenever Ann Coulter strays off the conservative reservation.
Here is a song from that series by a group from the Miami area.

One of America's greatest natural disasters was the 1928 Lake Okeechobee hurricane that generated a storm surge on Lake Okeechobee that killed more than 2,000 people. Before it hit Florida, it devastated Puerto Rico. Carson Robison tells the story.
