What is Romney's nominal position on abortion? If he is nominally pro-choice, or at least is willing to recognize that Roe vs. Wade was wrongly decided and that the matter should be returned to state control, he just might stand firm. It is rare that such an historic test occurs in such an unambiguously naked form. I trust that people Romney knows and respects are telling him that there are times when even politicians have to man up and do the right thing, and let the chips fall where they may.
This is not a time for Trump to run to his magic twitter machine and play dog at the fire hydrant with Romney or anyone else. Memo to POTUS: do not publicly insult the guy you absolutely have to have to win. Maybe Mike Pence should hold onto Trump's phone for the next couple of weeks.
