Trump to Make Supreme Court Nomination Friday or Saturday. President has five women under consideration to replace Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg

President Trump said he would nominate a Supreme Court pick on Friday or Saturday and has five women under consideration to replace Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, as Senate Republicans lined up behind him and Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R., Ky.), rejecting Democrats’ calls to let the winner of the presidential election make the pick.

Mr. Trump maintained that the replacement of Justice Ginsburg, who died Friday of metastatic pancreatic cancer at the age of 87, should happen swiftly. “We won the election and elections have consequences,” he said Monday morning on Fox News. “We have plenty of time.”

The president’s list has been narrowed to two leading candidates, according to people familiar with the matter: federal appellate judges Amy Coney Barrett of the Seventh Circuit, in Chicago, and Barbara Lagoa of the 11th Circuit, in Atlanta.

The president said he has three other people to choose from, though declined to name them. He said he was looking for someone who is young and could serve on the court for a long time. “We’re looking for a good person.”

Judge Barrett, 48 years old, was confirmed to the U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in October 2017 in a 55-43 vote. She is popular among social conservatives and was a finalist for the post in 2018 when Mr. Trump chose Justice Brett Kavanaugh. Judge Lagoa, 52, previously served as the first Hispanic woman on Florida’s high court.

More than 20 Senate Republicans said over the weekend that they back moving immediately to fill the vacancy, and many are expected to follow suit as the week gets under way. Two Republican senators—Sens. Susan Collins of Maine and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska—broke ranks this weekend, saying they oppose action on a nomination before the presidential election.

He should do it today or tomorrow.

Friday it is! Then we can begin the process on September 28.

Trump should spend time making the right choice...take two weeks...

Pick the most originalist, most conservative, toughest broad out there...

...the one that gets the D Mob into the frothiest lather...

Then, Mitch should just rush this through....vote next day...

No questions axed...no putzing around...

“His team needs the extra time to fully vet her record so there are no surprises.”

Not going to stop the Dems from coming up with all manner of BS that will slow things down to a crawl. Kavanaugh had been already vetted more than a few times and still had to go through the Dem protocol exam.

Showmanship. Trump has rallies scheduled all week long. I suspect he is going to use them for his build-up.

President Trump should announce he has to interview Laura Loomer before he can make his SCOTUS pick final. Wouldn’t that frost Democrat cookies! LOL!

Democrat senators are going to go to war, regardless of who is nominated. With that in mind, I want the President to nominate a solid constitutionalist with a known conservative background.

I don’t think it’s going to be Barrett. She is name dropped too often and the front runner rarely gets these things. Take it with a grain of salt but there was a rumor last time around that she did not hit it off with POTUS when they met, too.

Collins is not in the no camp now. Her statement doesn’t say anything about how she will vote.

Then last night Posobiec, I think it was, said the WH was resisting the pressure from Rubio.

Could have something to do with Rubio continuing his coupist activities as chairman of the corrupt SSCI.

“We have plenty of time.”

No we don't. We have to get a new Justice by or right after November 3.
The quicker the nomination, the better the faster they can be conformed. Why wait till Friday? Trump should have been prepared to replace e RBG long ago. Everyone knew she was going to pass at any time t.

Why Friday or Saturday??

It's just more days wasted! Do it on Tuesday!

And you’d think the top three or four candidates would have been fully vetted long ago. Everybody knew this day was coming.

We just don’t have enough time for showmanship and whatnot . He needs to nominate someone ASAP. He knows how hard it is to get someone confirmed.

It’s now Monday no announcement.

President Trump said he would nominate a Supreme Court pick on Friday or Saturday...

So that will be four or five days from now.

I doubt that McConnell would have said anything about a vote unless he already talked to everyone and knew he had the votes.

My guess is Trump wisely put the brakes on being railroaded into the Jeb and Marco candidate. Word had been that she was slated to be announced tomorrow. Then last night Posobiec, I think it was, said the WH was resisting the pressure from Rubio.

Chickens coming home roost for Guac Boy and Little Marco. It’s pretty rich they would push their candidate for SCOTUS after doing little but obstruct POTUS and the MAGA agenda the past 4 years.

“Showmanship. Trump has rallies scheduled all week long. I suspect he is going to use them for his build-up.”

Actually, that goes to the concern I mentioned hereabouts the other day; Trump would try to make the nomination a big drawn-out production instead of just getting it done. You have to first score the touchdown before you start spiking the ball.

Rubio is not Chairman of the Judicial Committee. Graham is.
