allowed to say all kinds of things that arent actually Party policy. As long as they are not critical of the party, even constructively.

Just ban TikTok from the U.S. and be done with it. If the rest of the world wants to be Chyna’s bitch, that’s up to them.

The Global Times’s function is to do trial runs of maximalist foreign policy positions. Implicit criticism of the Party for being too soft on dastardly foreigners is pretty much a daily feature.

Odd that they didn’t take the same stance when forcing American companies to “share” their proprietary IP with the Chinese “partner” in order to do business in China, and the Chinese company becomes a local competitor, thus forcing the American company out of the Chinese marked.
Somehow, it’s now a ripoff when Chinese companies are getting forced out of the American market.
Well, boo-hoo.
Bottom line: They sell 4x in the US what they allow the US to sell into China. So, if trade gets curtailed the hit to their GDP is 6x, given that the US GDP is 1.5 the China GDP. So, they can not go economic warfare tit-for-tat, since the US punch is 6x harder.
And suddenly, a virus appears...in an election year...with Leftists ready to riot...and Soros District Attorney’s ready to drop charges...

The Global Timess function is to do trial runs of maximalist foreign policy positions That makes sense vis-a-vis the India border confrontation. Their language is so extreme ('we will wipe out India' or 'or their military will get crushed by the PLA' or something to that effect), that it cannot possibly be official diplomatic speak. I guess it gives cover to the CCP and makes them look moderate and reasonable.

Last time I was in Hong Kong google was there. However, there's a twist. When you'd try to reach “google dot com” on the hotel wifi you got “dot cn”...meaning China's version.I had seen stories about google dot cn so I tried to search Tienanmen Square. All I got were photos of a peaceful, majestic place. Not a single photo of what the civilized world knows happened there.
So China has hijacked it...or google caved to pressure from the Butchers of Beijing.

Precisely. At the margins, it’s jingoistic japery for John Chinaman.
