"But drawing things out a bit does allow the Democrats to make even more spectacular asses of themselves"

If they find some way to stall just a couple weeks, the SC will be deadlocked during election counts. This is pushing it way too close. This should be jammed down. The Dem stalling will be epic.

Just remember that the Republicans are better off with a possible 4-4 tie instead of sure-thing 5-4 loss on any critical election issues.

And if Roberts would vote in G.O.P.’s favor, it would have been 5-4 with RBG and will be 5-3 with her seat vacant.

I like these kind of problems.

“This should be jammed down.”

I’m with you 100%. There is too much at stake.

No matter WHAT the Republicans do, the Dems will be screaming bloody murder and accusing them of everything imaginable. There is literally no downside to McConnell getting the nomination on Saturday, and then scheduling the vote for first thing Monday morning. If the Dems are stupid enough not to give the Republicans ANY wiggle room, then they won’t wiggle (or they shouldn’t).

We cannot go into what is guaranteed to be a contested election in several states (vs. just FL in 2000) with even the possibility that the Court will be deadlocked - we have to have the 9th Justice seated. McConnell needs to blast this one through - not merely because we need that person seated, but because assuredly the Dems would do exactly that if the roles were reversed.
