State health leaders listed him as the youngest Oregonian to die from COVID-19, but it turns out 26-year-old Matthew Irvin of Yamhill County didn’t have the virus when he died in July.
Family members of Irvin told FOX 12 they’ve been fighting for answers since their son died in his home.
New testing conducted by the CDC confirmed Irvin did not have the coronavirus when he died, according to his parents.
The Oregon State Medical Examiner’s Office said Irvin’s sample sent to the CDC tested negative for COVID-19.
The family said back in July, Irvin became very sick and went to the hospital, where he was told he might have COVID-19. A test was administered to find out and he was sent home.
Irvin’s step-father told FOX 12 that a couple days later, Irvin’s condition became a lot worse, so the family called the hospital to alert them that they were bringing Irvin back -- that’s when the family says they were told by the hospital not to come back unless Irvin was having trouble breathing.
Irvin ended up dying at home shortly after.
The family ended up having a private autopsy performed on Irvin’s body and a sample was sent to the CDC for further testing.
The family says they are now trying to get other reports back from the state that may shed more light into how Irvin died.
Meanwhile, FOX 12 reached out to the Oregon Health Authority, asking if the authority corrected the COVID-19 death toll and removed Irvin’s name from the list.
Irvin’s death also begs the question – how reliable is the information that OHA uses to tally the deadly coronavirus cases?

You cannot watch a sporting event on TV this month where EVERY SOUND is FAKE. Fans cheering or boo’ing IS FAKE. Life-size posters in stands and seats are fake.
When diagnosed with some kinds of stage four cancer, you
generally have six months or less to live.
If your relative walks outside the hospital after being
diagnosed with one of these types of stage four cancer,
is robbed and shot dead in the process, does that mean
they died of that stage four cancer?
Do you then say to yourself, well we shouldn’t arrest
this person, since my relative would have died less
than six months anyway?
No, you mourn the senseless loss, and you hold
accountable the culprit. We should hold accountable
COVID-19 too.
They would have had months more to be with you.
That is how we should see an earlier loss from COVID-19.
Sometimes those six month turn into 12 months, two years,
and in some cases another decade. We never know how
well folks will respond to new therapies. We hope for
the best. We don’t dismiss an earlier death as a non-
event.
Told by the hospital not to come back? Don’t you normally go to your own doctor who has admitting privilege?
He was admitted and told (incorrectly) that he (might) have Covid and was sent home.
I know of a person who was diagnosed for having stage four
pancreatic cancer in 2018. That person was lost in late
October.
If they had come down with COVID-19 in June or July and died,
should they have been classified as having died of cancer?
The answer is no. They would have lived on for months if
they had nt been infected with COVID-19.

I am responding to things that are said on the topic.
There are definitely people out there who are. Should I
and others remain silent to prove how we are not
obsessed, just let everyone run around like chickens
with their heads lopped off not considering some valid
alternative points?
Why is it that you think I’m obsessed for addressing
certain points made on the forum, when others are posting
their thoughts on line moment by moment?
Haven’t you felt free to post your point of view all

I live in a smaller western town with a competent, friendly hospital that people tend to have a favorable opinion of. But there is security everywhere now, with a part-time police dog. You aren’t going to be able to do anything or go anywhere they don’t approve of.
