“Violent criminals should not be allowed to continue to terrorize society.”
It is really odd that a criminal can be deemed violent enough to not be allowed to legally own a gun, but is not deemed violent enough to still be in prison.
Very good point. And if we look back just 100 years, the death penalty would have been applied, in most cases.
Tru dat.

There is no perfect application of our 2nd amendment rights. Sometimes what is fair, what is just requires a compromise. It is not unreasonable that we consider the length of prison as a limited time, and still think the commission of a certain crime ranks as qualifying for other restrictions that may still apply after the prison term is completed. Maybe further compromise would serve justice better by making the other restrictions apply only for certain time limits as well, and not permanent. It would probably be added that no other felony occurred during that additional time limit. That would make it like a “probationary” period where the formerly convicted person is demonstrating their abandonment of the behavior that got them into trouble; after which any additional restrictions would no longer apply.

IOW, we have been for over 100 years, and are continuing to deal with, a bunch of stupid bastards in the government...hardly a surprising phenomenon for anyone with functioning eyes, ears and just a handful of properly operating neurons.
Completely agree. If someone is too dangerous to own a firearm legally, they are too dangerous to be walking the streets. When we allow our rights to be selectively muted based on crimes, all things will be made crimes to ensure our rights can be legally eliminated.
If they can’t take away our guns without cause under the US Constitution and they can’t put us all in prison for practical reasons, then the only option remaining is to make as many of us as possible “prohibited persons”. That’s the route Maryland and others have taken: drum up excuses for why somebody can’t ever touch a gun again and let Federal law help enforce that. “Oh, you got in a bar fight in 1975 and entered a guilty plea so your night and jail and $50 fine were the only punishment? Well... CLEARLY you can’t EVER own or handle a firearm for the rest of your life!” Seriously, they went back and changed the law to add retroactive punishment removing constitutional rights for crimes committed decades previous.
If you don’t think felons should have guns, or you don’t think violent criminals who’ve served their sentences should have guns, keep them in prison. If they’re out of prison, they’re citizens, and they have rights. If they don’t, then your own rights are just one ridiculous law away from disappearing.
