NEW YORK (Reuters) - Democrats in of the House of Representatives will introduce a bill next week to limit the tenure of U.S. Supreme Court justices to 18 years from current lifetime appointments, in a bid to reduce partisan warring over vacancies and preserve the courts legitimacy.
The new bill, seen by Reuters, would allow every president to nominate two justices per four-year term and comes amid heightened political tensions as Republican President Donald Trump prepares to announce his third pick for the Supreme Court after the death on Sept. 18 of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, with just 40 days to go until the Nov. 3 election.

Next we need a bill limited congress to 12 years and the senate to 12 years. Tit for tat. Who the hell do these people think they are???
Does anyone else NOT see how such a change would actually INCREASE partisan warring over vacancies as judges are timed out during a term?
I know it doesn’t matter, but isn’t that bill unconstitutional?
Desperation has set in. Along with fear sweat.
Mark Levin has suggested the same in some of his works.
Term limits for Congress FIRST!
Democrats just throwing some red meat out there to fire up their voters before the SCOTUS vote in the senate and the presidential election in November.to their voters
Unless I’m grossly mistaken, I believe the States have a say in this matter as well?
I believe it’s called an Amendment and it needs to be ratified, but hey I’m just a normal guy who has no grasp of middle school government classes and obviously these elected officials know far more than me on this...
The House should be limited to three terms at most and the Senate to two.
Term limits can be a two-edged sword.
I could agree with a bill limiting appointments to 75 years old. Age discrimination? Maybe/maybe not. The long court appointment provides a very important balance to historical consistency and historical context. It provides the balance between short Presidential terms of 4-8 years.
The real place that has gummed up the works though is the Senate and House ...we the people failing to vote in ‘fresh blood’ has allowed this soft coup of marxism to take place. If events of today do not provide example enough to create term limits, nothing will in the future.
This issue is in the Congress, not the SCOTUS.
So the SCOTUS is now Not a CoEqual branch of government anymore? The constitution be deemed null? The rats need to be in Gitmo
Repeal the 17th Amendment.
Can anyone imagine a Justice Scalia or Thomas timing out during the Obama administration? Very, very bad idea.
Im right there with you, and a couple of others.
The rats are not smarter than a fifth grader....
Yes!!!
Good! That means I can slice a second neck on the return swing!
