Lindsey Graham: Senate Judiciary Committee will approve Barrett on October 22
New York Post ^ | September 27, 2020 | Mark Moore

Posted on 09/27/2020 2:30:23 PM PDT by karpov

Sen. Lindsey Graham, the chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, said Sunday that an escalated timeline for Supreme Court nominee Judge Amy Coney Barrett will allow for a vote before Halloween — as a number of lawmakers said her confirmation is all but assured.

“So we’ll start on Oct. 12, and more than half of the Supreme Court justices who have had hearings were done within 16 days or less,” Graham said on Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures.”

“We’ll have a day of introduction. We’ll have two days of questioning, Tuesday and Wednesday, and on the 15th we’ll begin to markup, we’ll hold it over for a week, and we’ll report her nomination out of the committee on Oct. 22.”

At that point, the Republican from South Carolina said, it would be up to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell “as to what to do with the nomination once it comes out of committee.”

Trump announced Barrett’s nomination to the court to replace Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg during a White House ceremony on Saturday — a week and a day after the liberal icon’s death at the age of 87.

Republicans in the Senate said they expect Barrett to be confirmed by election day, Nov. 3.

“What I’ve said was, this needs to take all the time it needs to take, but it doesn’t need to take more time than it needs to take,” Sen. Roy Blunt (R-Mo.) said on NBC News’ “Meet the Press.”

“And he’s laid out a plan that I think meets all the standards of past hearings and could be done before Election Day. If for some reason it’s not done, we’ll do it after Election Day, but I think we’re likely to get this done sometime in the month of October.”

Just don’t mess this up, it should be a layup. But then again, so should beating a demented candidate.

I think the GOP chorus right now should be to demand Biden face multiple freewheeling press conferences with all reporters able to ask tough questions.

The American people deserve it.

Agreed but I don’t know the ins and outs of these procedures.

I think more of a Hooker, a Burnside or a Premberton. Didn’t McClellan actually win at Antietam?

“Didn’t McClellan actually win at Antietam?”

No, it was a draw. Lee, greatly outnumbered, fought McClellan to a standstill, and at the end of the fight both forces withdrew.

Most historians call it a Pyrrhic Union victory because it prevented the south from advancing any further until the following year.

“Most historians call it a Pyrrhic Union victory because it prevented the south from advancing any further until the following year.”

Yes, as a strategic battle it would fit the definition of a Pyrrhic victory, but as a tactical battle it was a draw. It was a very pivotal fight in the War, and how it ended meant that the War would go on. The next such pivotal battle was Gettysburg, almost a year later, and THAT battle arguably cost the Confederacy the war.

But Antietam was interesting, because McClellan (who had discovered Lee’s battle plan) resorted to his usual timid self and blew it. Lincoln replaced him soon after.

Congressman Matt Gaetz tore into Graham for starting the process on Oct 12th

Just another example of Graham stonewalling in hopes of not getting Barrett confirmed before the election.

I was gobsmacked when I saw him announce the 12th

Anything to make things harder for Trump and our Constitutional Republic.

No wonder LG is not getting enough money for his campaign.

McClellan was a Democrat, and ran against Lincoln in ‘64 on a platform that the war was unwinnable. Patton, Linda is not, but he’s also no McClellan. He was overcautious to the point of idiocy or perhaps cowardice. Linda is a tad cowardly at times, but he does have fire in his belly, as he showed with Kavanaugh. Perhaps, if we’re comparing him to union generals, he’s Meade, capable on a rudimentary level, and under the right conditions he can deliver great victories. I think the Dems are heading into a Picket’s charge. With or without this nomination succeeding, they’ve turned off Catholics big time.

I concur, but it's about maximizing the optics of democrats anti-Catholic narrative. Also, the Haiti smears will only expose what the Clintons have been up to. I'll wager there's more than meets the eye with the "delay" tactic, but am sure it will be pushed through before the election to ensure ACB will be in place for election fraud cases. According to one source, the following (D) Senators are up, four of which are vulnerable:

Doug Jones, Alabama Chris Coons, Delaware Dick Durbin, Illinois Ed Markey, Massachusetts Gary Peters, Michigan Tina Smith, Minnesota Jeanne Shaheen, New Hampshire Cory Booker, New Jersey New Mexico (incumbent Tom Udall retiring) Jeff Merkley, Oregon Jack Reed, Rhode Island Mark Warner, Virginia

If the voters are going into the election one week after the dems have made complete fools of themselves, perhaps more than the four can be flipped and give the (R) a 60+ majority again. I'm no fan of McStain's pet Grahamnesty, but adopting a "wait and see" approach.

Not at all worried about any Biden "surge"...the guy has zero ground game, can't walk and chew gum at the same time.

Because Barrett’s never, ever, been mentioned for years as the likely nominee to replace RGB... who had been dying from pancreatic cancer for over a year...

Correct. Lincoln wisely waited until after the 1862 mid-term elections to removed McClellan. The Republicans still lost 27 seats in the House but retained a narrow plurality.

The die was cast for a rematch two years later when the course of the war would turn the politics strongly in Lincoln's favor. But people tend to forget just how unpopular the war was in what remained of the Union.

Why does he need 10 days??? Why is he slowing it down.

Why did he reinstitute the Pink Slip rule, why does weeks pass without a single judge being approved? Why, why indeed?

And will Trumps Covid test change things? If ACB or a group of senators have to quarantine, or worse, if any get real sick?? We can’t afford any delays here.
