During nonpandemic times, the West Mall at the University of Texas is chock-a-block with college clubs, including campus political organizations pushing would-be voters to register.
But during a recent sunny lunch hour, with students largely taking classes online and close contact a no-no, the mall was completely empty.
A similar quiet has descended on once-busy college quads across the country, with potentially big political implications.

Hehe.
LS has been on top of this.
That might be an even more relevent question in New Hampshire where a GOP win not only for Trump to carry the state but also pick up another senator.
I don’t know but I get the sense that there are a lot of unintended consequences from Dem decisions. By doing things more normally Trump may have created an advantage for Republicans. Are Dems cannibalizing their election day vote for a less certain mail-in vote? Registration at colleges was one i didn’t consider
The bastard Dems stole every damn house seat we had in CA. by harvesting votes in college campuses AND assisted living facilities!! We had 2 special elections due to scandals of the NEW Dems elected because of CV19 NO campuss were open NO assisted living facilities were open AND we won BOTH seats back!! It was absolute proof that these R seats were stolen during the 2018 election with vote harvesting and extending counting the ballots for 2 weeks after the election!!
As a college professor in Texas I can tell you the answer is NO.
Karl Rove was on TV couple years ago talking about how Beto almost beat Cruz. Beto was getting thousands of votes at campuses that had voting locations set up directly on campus.
Issue presented: Will Trump hatred overcome the headwinds of the campus shortfall, Democrats not doing grassroots organizing, and the disproportionate fear of Democrats of voting in-person because of China Virus?
“I dont know but I get the sense that there are a lot of unintended consequences from Dem decisions.”
I’m in Nevada, the Dem Governor Sisolak shut down the state for Covid. The Culinary Union used to deliver busloads of votes, but they are 70% out of work.
Beto mania may be over. The kids in Austin were nuts, but now they are not supposed to have parties off-campus. I would take my partial-differential equations course on-line after 7:30am MWF after my morning coffee.
Same for UPenn, which has no undergrads on campus.
If there isn’t someone to wake up the college voter, and no possibility of getting laid, my guess is that students (loose term) aren’t going to be motivated.....unless free food and booze.
Yes but its legal. Why werent republicans doing the same thing? They stood by and watched it happen.
I was PISSED at Ronna for losing the house you are right RNC did NOTHING!! I have NO FAITH in Ronna NONE!!
How many of these students voted twice in the past? Absentee in their home city and in person at their college city? Just keeping them at home, means voting just once.
I thought about this Wisconsin comes to mind with college kids in Madison now they are virtually online and cant goto a badger football game at the end of October I think back to 2012 when Bruce Springsteen was in Madison with Obama in October now thats impossible
Oh noes!
They kilt them dem self’s
