The new measure requires certain merchants to provide price lists for standard services upon request and notifies them that gender-based price discrimination is prohibited under state law. For example, if the price to dry-clean a woman's suit jacket is $12 but only $8 for a man's, it would violate the law, the governor's office said.

In industry parlance, the bitch tax. A term my erstwhile fil used, who once owned a chain of dry cleaners in the 50s and 60s. Currently employed by Korean dry cleaners along the Bos-Wash corridor.
So, what about ladies night at the bar. Do dudes get to drink free too? If so, for those who spend more on alcohol than dry cleaning, we are down with Cuomo’s pandering pink tax.
You mean aside from destroying the state?
So let’s factor in the trans’ costs.
What if the cost for a male vs a trans-male service differs?
Such as a prostate exam?
What if the woman’s jacket is full of rhinestones...rhinestones!!!
A rhinestone cowboy?
The Materials in womens clothing tends to be less durable also. Maybe Cuomo should mandate that women’s clothing be made out of the same durable materials that mens clothing is made out of...Same with shoes too!
New York? What about a man’s bra and skirt?
Our stuff is more difficult to clean/press than men’s because of all the folds and stuff that has to be hand processed.
Man? Woman? What are these nebulous terms? /s
It will now cost $12.00 to clean a man’s suit. What a genius.
Then the gov will decide that dry cleaners can be taxed more.
That was a great episode!
Because men can’t drive!
Believe Cuomo has totally lost it mentally due to the nursing home deaths due from the virus. He should step down from his position at Governor!
Whether by ignorance or ill-intent, the price of dry-cleaning men's clothing has to go up since the cost of dry-cleaning women's clothing can't come down. Men's items are simpler, fit on the machines and don't have things attached to them the way women's clothing does.
I can see dry-cleaners including more caveats that "we're not responsible for damaged items from the manufacturer's design". I can also see a smart dry-cleaner split into two completely separate business, each only serving one type of clothing.
"I need to get this dry-cleaned."
"Sorry, we don't clean those here but if you go right next door, they do."
Could you imagine trying to jack up the price of men's haircuts to that of women's?
40 percent of the deaths in the US from the china virus where done by 5 rat govenors, he is one of them, 40 PERCENT!!!!
I lived in So Calif when the women complained that cleaning their blouses cost more than cleaning or laundering & ironing a man’s shirt.
It was a hot topic for months.
Dry cleaners tried to show that doing the same service on the 2 garments was a longer process on blouses because they are often very different. A man’s shirt is pretty standard.
L A City council declared that the prices had to be the same....
SOOOOO—The price of men’s shirts went up—a considerable amount, and it all matched. Since not all women’s blouses get to be sent to the cleaners, households now were paying out alot more money for the men’s shirts.
Currently, the garbage in NYC is piling up multi feet high in the streets, and THIS is a major issue???
At the rate that people will be able to CONTINUE working from home, those cleaners might not even be open a year from now........
Petty politicians==disgusting !!!
