praised China as a “great nation” deserving of American respect,

So, Bert as a resident globalist, what part of this do you disagree with?

I would say his sentiments concerning the ChiComs are not much different that 50% of the globalist GOPe and posters on Free Republic.

——what part of this do you disagree with?——

First, Your assumption may be at least partially correct in that many do not hold China in complete disdain.

As always, you fail to see the reality. Your view focuses on Chicoms and excludes Chicaps

There are at least two aspects of the Peoples Republic of China. The dominant aspect is the Communist Party. The other is what I will just call the people. The CCP eschews freedom and is opposed. The people seem to love and enjoy freedom and there is sympathy with them.

Since early July, I have been fascinated by watching Youtube videos of the China Flooding. I will note that there is still current flooding in process. One reliable source reports that as of earlier this week there were 21 separate flooding events since the beginning in early July.

The people are shown as they are and as they live in flooded circumstances that have literally been in effect for weeks. The flood waters have not receded.

It appears that prior to the flooding their lives seemed to be pretty good.

While the videos focus on flood waters, various very modern cities and infrastructure are depicted. That is there is to me, amazing very modern architecture that is very widely distributed along the miles and miles of the Yangtze river and tributaries. That is, the large high rise structures are “new” and plentiful.

As recently as say 1989 and the Tieneman Square incidents, videos of streets depicted hordes of bicycles. Current videos of flooded cities depict lots and lots and lots of autos. One of the favorite shots is of cars floating downstream in the torrent. It has become so common, it is no longer amazing. Autos today are in fact water tight and actually float. The same is true of some Chinese trucks and vans. The videos are restricted to the flooded areas so it is not possible to grasp the reality that includes city areas out of the flood zones. Even so, the numbers of flooded cars is literally uncountable. Thousands and thousands of cars have been severely flood damaged.

It is China and the numbers of people that have been made homeless and severely affected is probably unknown but is said to be the last I heard as 63 million. My thought is that the Katrina flooding of NOLA was a trifle compared to current events in China. The communist government does not seem to have provided any aid or relief at all

Out of the cities, when levees were purposely breached, flood waters spread for miles and miles over the vast and ancient flood plain. Presently that flood plain is farmed. Lots and lots of crops were destroyed. There are also favorite video subjects, cattle and especially hogs swimming for their lives in the torrent. Food supplies in storage were wet and damaged.

In addition to the rain flooding the inland rivers, there have been a series of typhoons that damaged coastal cities. One report depicted a typhoon damaged high rise with the exterior walls literally ripped off. The voice over said it was one of what were called Tofu construction.

In more recent videos, there are segments describing internal political tensions between the CCP and what seem to me to be the People faction. The leaders of the People faction are being rendered powerless. Apparently ot is a big enough deal to be widely mentioned by various sources within the country.

On top of all the rain, there is the China virus. Imagine being locked up and restricted in a flooded city. It is terrible beyond imagination but it was real and might still be. We don’t get the reports of the extent of the virus in China and the extreme measures taken to shut things down. There are clips escaping that show the reality and they are interspersed within the flood reporting.

All that is observation. What I do for a living is observe and report a finding that is factual and may include some analysis.
Is China a great nation. Yes, we must say that compared to the world China is very large, has a the largest population, is economically strong, has a well educated population, is academically curious and a population that travels the world. China is beyond up to date with the use of cell phones and social media.

Great applies

I am not able to present a finding on the desire of China to control the world. I simply don’t know. I suspect China lacks the military ability to dominate

Based on observations from thousands of miles away I see a Chinese population in the cities and well developed areas that are presently enjoying freedoms and standard of living unheard of and perhaps even thought of as little as twenty years ago. Although there are in fact large companies that are in effect government companies, there are apparently lots of small and medium companies that are essentially extensions of families.

The inherent entrepreneurship of the Chinese has been released and has manifested in untold numbers of businesses. One of the video reports depicted a crackdown on all sorts of street vendors running very small to sizeable operations. That is, these businesses are a direct threat to the CCP that decreed they must end. There is apparently great animosity toward that ruling. That ruling is a threat to larger freedoms

I have been led to believe that that family businesses on the mainland have extensive ties with family members that compose the overseas Chinese. They live in Taiwan, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Manila, Vancouver and San Francisco.

I have not reached a firm conclusion but presently believe there is turmoil stirring between the people who are fairly prosperous and have relative freedoms beyond belief twenty and certainly thirty years ago. The destruction of Hong Kong is the strongest indication of the CCP fear that things are out of hand

My view is expressed by this statement…..
How ya’ gonna keep em down on the farm after they’ve got Daisey Maes?

The old men will die out and the people, especially the youth will determine the future of China

We’ll see

(sorry for all the words, but you asked)
