Here’s what is indisputable: ratings for the NFL are down, in some cases to an ugly degree. Thursday Night Football (NFL Network) was down an astounding 70 percent from last year, but that comes with a huge caveat: last year’s game aired on NFL Network and Fox. Broadcast TV always jacks up ratings, and it’ll do the same thing when TNF returns to Fox later this season.

Still: only 5.41 million watched the Denver Broncos and the New York Jets play last Thursday.

Sunday Night Football (NBC) took a steep dive, falling 37 percent in viewership from last year. The matchup was substandard — a winless Philadelphia versus an injury-ravaged San Francisco — even if the game ended up being fairly decent. If there’s a worrying sign for the NFL, it’s Sunday night.

The CBS doubleheader also saw sharp declines due in large part to the shifting of Patriots-Chiefs to Monday night. A primo matchup vanished from the slate, and that sent the early game (primarily Chargers-Bucs) tumbling 32 percent to 9.95 million viewers, and the late game (Buffalo-Las Vegas) down 6 percent to 18.61 million viewers.

Here is the deal, there is simply NO WAY both the NBA finals and the NFL would have suffered such a catastrophic collapse in their TV ratings if President Trump were behind in the polls.
After all, it was President Trump who called on Americans to boycott NBA NFL games over their disrespect for the flag. As it turns out, most Americans agreed with him.
Slow Joe and the Dems strongly took a knee with the overpaid BLM backing millionaires of pro sports.
Its impossible for Trump to be behind by what was it, 16 points from CNN, even while most Americans show they agree with him, and huge numbers show up for Trump's rallies even as Slow Joe struggles to get even 20 people to attend any rally of his.

With the NFL you could make a case that projecting the national election is a case of selection bias because the fans tend towards conservative...but not the NBA...

There’s been a lack of interest in NBA for years. I recall that there was college wrestling on that had more viewers than NBA. Granted it was Penn State and Iowa, but I would choose wrestling over basketball any day.

Maybe the bosses and sponsors of the BLM conscious NFL and NBA should send thugs to houses and shake the people and shout they are racists for not watching them on TV.

Ratings were down mostly because you had a couple 0-3 teams that are going nowhere playing each other. On top of that, 0-3 Denver was missing its starting qb, and started an undrafted free agent.

A better measure would be the Patriots (even without Cam) and the Chiefs on Monday night.

Please note that there have been some really good Highway Patrol , Brady Bunch and Love Boat episodes against them in that time slot as competition recently. Fan favorite classics. Ratings went down for NFL and NBA.

Yes.
The NBA suffered a 68% collapse in game 3 of the NBA finals from last year.
That is unheard of, especially since last year's finals had the Toronto Raptors in it. There was only one American team playing, so therefore the ratings should have been much higher this year, especially with lockdowns keeping people at home.
