Cornyn says he broke with Trump on deficit, border wall, but kept opposition private
Star-Telegram ^ | Oct 18 2020 | GORDON DICKSON

U.S. Sen. John Cornyn acknowledged Friday that at times he has disagreed with President Trump on issues such as budget deficits and debt, tariffs and trade agreements and border security.

But, the senior Republican senator from Texas, who is being challenged by Democrat MJ Hegar, said he chose to work on those disagreements with the president’s staff in private discussions, rather than by publicly voicing his opposition.

H anding a Democrat an election actually counterproductive”

No it isn’t. The GOP’s loss to Obama in 2012 was PRODUCTIVE. It paved the way for Trump to be nominated in 2016. If the GOP had won in 2012, the 2016 nominee would have been Romney, running for reelection.
In other words, WE WON BECAUSE ROMNEY LOST in 2012.

But Cruz has made up for it in my eyes. He’s done some great work, been a great advocate for the the conservative cause, and had Trumps back through his Presidency. I think POTUS thinks so, too.

That’s why I’d vote for his opponent, to make sure Cornyn is given the hook

Republicans had their chance - they could have pushed for and voted for a primary opponent.

They didn't.

And you want to vote for the Democrat challenger?

Good grief. You have been spouting that sort of talk for this 2020 election often.

Thank your lucky stars I'm not a moderator.

Nah. I know you wouldn’t do that. We need to get charge of the committees, and if we have to gag on a vote or two, we should do it.

Nope. A lot of Republicans decided that they couldn’t be arsed to get who they actually wanted in the primary, and since they didn’t get their Pope of Purity like candidate, they stayed home or voted for the Democrat instead.

Yep...”Big” John Cornball....who’s only conservative every FOUR years, during campaign season, sounds like he’s pandering to moderates/lefties.

He’s acting like Susan Collins.

Time to boot him out of his fake saddle.

He usually does ads with him on a horseback. This years ads has him in front of a tall office building and wearing a mask. Wussification of Corny.

I’m not that thrilled with Cornyn but there is no way I would vote for a Democrat or leave that vote empty. Letting a Dem take that seat is the worst possible idea.

With respect, that’s sheeple thinking. The GOPe big boys love the sheeple who vote Tepublican no matter what they do to us and no matter how much they backstab Trump

I’m not Sheeple. I’m willing to see the GOP lose and get ousted from power for a few years in order to push RINOs out of power and replace them with MAGA candidates

Romney and the GOP has to lose the general election in 2012 to clear the way for Trump in 2016. I knew the GOP would never change if Romney was elected, so I voted against him and cheered on election night when , sad-faced andcshocked, he conceded

In the same way, the GOP senate caucus will never serve the base if elitist globalists like Cornyn keep getting re-elected. I will cheer if he loses, even if the Dems take the Senate. The GOP needs to regroup as a MAGA party and come back to victory in 2 or 4 years

“Time to boot him out of his fake saddle.”

Now? Just as the Democrats are all set for permanent One Party rule? Cornyn could do better, but he is FAR from being as bad as any Democrat, and I suspect that he’s less likely to support handing the country over to Democrats than his opponent.

Naa, you’re just an ENABLER of the Democrats. No thanks!“

I bet you voted for Romney in 2012 and you were sad when he lost

If you had your way - if your vote for Romney had been successful - he’d be president right now, and Paul Ryan the VP would be the Republican candidate to succeed him. That’s the kind of GOP mediocrity that Republican sheeple voters enable.
