The DOJ is probably concerned about the appearance of impropriety not only because we are proximal to a national election, but also in deference to media spotlight. Lady Justice is like that, you know. She wants to make sure everything looks good (/s).
As corrupt as the FBI appears to be, I’d expect them to HIDE the fact they had Hunter’s computer from the AG.
