If so they should come right out and
said they were being sarcastic. Hoping
it goes away? Politics and patriotism
are hot button issues...what’s said
on air and on social media. If anything
they could have added, these flyovers
provide needed training for pilots. That helps justify the cost.

Sarcasm: the gulf between what you think you heard and what I actually meant.

From the wacky definitions that the NYT use to put together each year. This one (paraphrased) fits.. Don’t know if the NYT does them anymore.
