American Shoppers Panic-Buying As Coronavirus Spike Aggravates Year Of Upheaval

Americans buying guns alongside their toilet paper and canned goods in anticipation of Nov. 3

With just four days until the 2020 presidential election, early indicators show American shoppers concerned about political fallout, a spike in coronavirus cases and the possibility of more lockdowns are stockpiling goods.

As tensions run high, toilet paper, cleaning supplies, and other basic goods are reportedly flying off store shelves once more in anticipation of a night of civil unrest next Tuesday.

Approaching the close of a chaotic year, in which social and racial justice protesters have frequently clashed with federal law enforcement, uncertainty has served as a catalyst, USA Today reported earlier this week.

Mothers are buying guns and ammunition in record numbers alongside their canned goods, in preparation for unprecedented election-related violence.

In June, gun dealers ran more than 3.9 million background checks on purchasers through the National Instant Criminal Background Check System, according to FBI data. It was the highest number ever recorded in a single month.

Over the first nine months of 2020, gun sellers had conducted more checks than they had in all of 2019.

The New York Times reported Tuesday that the nation is on track to stockpile firearms at record rates, buying 15.1 million guns in the seven months this year from March through September.

Hoping to "bug out," residents in large cities allegedly plan to flee their apartments -- perhaps for the second time this year -- for homes in more remote locations.

BTW, I've not seen any 'panic' buying in my area.

Me too. Business as usual here in SW Pennsylvania. However I keep my cupboards and freezer filled anyway.

I did my “panic buying” yesterday—wanted to beat the last minute rush.

I haven't either. I'm in Silicon Valley.

TP and bottled water are pretty much gone in the grocery store up the street from us.

Here in northern CT we have just the opposite—tons of TP but shelves of paper towels are mostly empty.

Go figure...

My four rolls of toilet paper should be good for a month or so.

For some reason I’ve established a metric for usage.

I'm not sure why people buy bottled water at times like this. I don't think there's much of a chance of the city water being contaminated or cut off, such as there might be during flooding or an earthquake.

No panic buying in SW ‘Sconny, either. I was just at Walmart yesterday; all shelves were completely full.

I got everything I needed/wanted. Plenty of TP and paper towels, though SOME cleaning supplies were empty - and have been for months, so I think that particular ‘brand’ who occupied that shelf space was having problems, but I don’t know what brand it was. You could get bleach and other cleaners.

They’re open again from 7am-10pm. No ‘early open’ for Seniors, only, either.

No signs on the doors demanding you wear a mask either, though staff were all masked. Some customers were, some weren’t.

My question? Now that everyone is a Germa-Phobe and has been bathing in hand sanitizer for months, what new ‘Super Bug’ is going to crop up and wipe us out, now that we all lack immunity to just about everything? I know that would make the Socialist Democrats VERY happy. *SPIT*

But seriously, I’m concerned about THAT aspect of us all being locked in cages FOR TEN MONTHS NOW!

LIBERATE WISCONSIN! LIBERATE AMERICA!

Anyone who has ever changed a baby’s cloth diaper knows how to use a common wash rag for their toilet purpose. Then drop the rag in a bucket of soapy bleach water for later washing in a machine.

When all this began I went to the store and their was not a roll of TP to be had anywhere. Plenty of wash rags.

All the hand sanitizer was gone, but no one had yet touched the bleach or the hydrogen peroxide next to it.

I panic-bought a case of toilet paper and a case of cheddar cheese. The reason for the toilet paper is obvious, but with the cheese I’ll use much, much less of it, and it will last longer.
