What brought the Soviet Union down was not economics ... the Soviets could have remained in power while the people starved just like in NK ... but rather it was that it steadily lost the wherewithal to oppress its people, especially the elites, and with the growing inability to make its elites just disappear that Stalin had perfected those same elites were in a position to further secure their own safety and at the same time, often as unintended consequence, weaken the ability to oppress the people.
These American Marxists are clueless about the horrors they will face should they get their way, they imagine that only we deplorable will suffer, but in many instances any new power structure will quickly discriminate against their former fellow travelers ... and the latter will repeat history and end up writing letters to their beloved Uncle Joe (or whatever they call the Lenin/Stalin placeholder) pleading for help unaware that their dear leader will ultimately be behind their incarceration.
