SPALDING COUNTY, Ga. The Secretary of States office says the system should be back up after human error caused major problems at polling places across Spalding County today, but many precincts are still dealing with issues.
Officials say workers in Spalding County incorrectly loaded information onto the poll pads Tuesday morning so none of the machines were working. Tuesday morning, a Spalding County election official said the problems were caused by a glitch in the system.
The county rushed thousands of provisional ballots to each precinct so voting could continue, but many voters spent much or the morning standing in line. Some chose to come back later in the day.
The secretary of states office says poll workers were all trained on how to fix the issue they are currently experiencing, but poll workers at at least one precinct told Channel 2′s Kristen Holloway they need a technician to arrive before the machines will be back in operation.
We have a reporter and photographer in Spalding County investigating the issues. Watch Channel 2 Action News for LIVE coverage.
At that precinct, voters are still filling out paper ballots. Some voters told us they dont feel safe voting that way.
Just the process that theyre using right now, were putting our ballots on a cardboard box and theyre saying theyre gonna put it in a suitcase and take it downtown for it to be counted. To me, thats just not securing my vote enough for me, Wilbert Blackman said. I put my vote in but I feel like its not gonna count.
We have reached out to the county for more information, but have not heard back.
Earlier Tuesday morning, Spalding County Elections Supervisor Marcia Ridley urged everyone to be patient and assured voters that they will be able to cast their ballots. She said they have no plans to stay open past 7 p.m. unless there is a court order.
If you are in line by 7 p.m., you are allowed to cast your ballot even if it it goes into the night.
Is this traditionally a GOP stronghold?
Reportedly................
Calling on Gods angels to the rescue.
One of the drawbacks of waiting until Election Day to vote. If it ain’t fixed soon, some people may not get to vote.
“glitch”
It went 60-36 for Trump in 2016. Net difference was a little over 6k votes.
human error isn’t a glitch.
It may be an innocent mistake but it isn’t a glitch.
It is a result of being poorly trained or deliberate monkeywrenching.
After the governors race between Kemp and Abrams, I have been pretty leery about voting shenanigans in Georgia. That race should never have been that close. But at the same time I feel pretty good about our SOS. The machines now have a paper trail which I thought was a good thing.
OK. I am a poll worker in Hall County, GA.
Last week we had an issue with the poll pads, which are nothing more than iPads with an election app and a local database. During elections the iPads do NOT connect to the internet, so the database is local. We had to reload the database on two machines. With the approval of IT I turned wifi on the ipads, opened the app, went to settings, entered a password and downloaded a new database copy in less than 5 minutes. Simple.
I can see how someone could have left an old DB on the poll pads or loaded the wrong precinct onto them for this election. It’s known as a screw-up. Nothing nefarious.
Reasonably competent people could have fixed this problem in less than half an hour, but election workers tend to be retirees...
This is nothing more than an embarrassing screw-up.
I bet it was an error in setting up these poll pads for the precincts, or delivering the pads to the wrong precincts.
They had one job and screwed it up.

” incorrectly loaded information onto the poll pads “
Seriously, aren’t these idiots trained beforehand? Sounds like mischief to me.
Most retirees are perfectly competent.
I am a retiree, so yes ... but I should have used a better phrase like technically experienced or something.
No insult intended, just an observation about the folks I work the polls with.
Machines working fine at our polling station. Gwinnett county.
