Whats left behind is a bunch of tired old losers whod get an ACU rating of about 35 at best (think former governor George Pataki) and law & order authoritarians who do poorly when they run on the national scene because they are a solution to problems most Americans dont face (think former NYC mayor Rudy Giuliani).
In 2016 Donald Trump became the first candidate from New York to win on a national ticket (as President OR Vice President) since FDR in 1944. Thats an amazing historical fact when you consider that New York has been one of the three or four largest states in the U.S. Electoral College vote for that entire time.
Its also worth noting that Donald Trump voted in 2020 for the first time as a resident of FLORIDA.
True, Trump is the first NY-born president since FDR, but both Eisenhower (1952) and Nixon (1968) were living in New York when they ran, and were elected as New Yorkers, though neither is considered to be a real New Yorker.
