That’s kind of my point. The best candidates from New York moved out years ago. They’re running for office in places like North Carolina, Florida and Texas.

What’s left behind is a bunch of tired old losers who’d get an ACU rating of about 35 at best (think former governor George Pataki) and “law & order” authoritarians who do poorly when they run on the national scene because they are a solution to problems most Americans don’t face (think former NYC mayor Rudy Giuliani).

In 2016 Donald Trump became the first candidate from New York to win on a national ticket (as President OR Vice President) since FDR in 1944. That’s an amazing historical fact when you consider that New York has been one of the three or four largest states in the U.S. Electoral College vote for that entire time.

It’s also worth noting that Donald Trump voted in 2020 for the first time as a resident of FLORIDA.

True, Trump is the first NY-born president since FDR, but both Eisenhower (1952) and Nixon (1968) were living in New York when they ran, and were elected as New Yorkers, though neither is considered to be a real New Yorker.
